New story about my Medicaid problem: Medicaid's backlog is so huge that they didn't get to my renewal papers in time, so they gave themselves an extension... then the extension expired. The woman on the phone was all "Oh, now those papers are six months old so you may have to recertify!" to which I answered, "That is not my fault! I did everything ( Read more... )

On the one hand I keep thinking, "I can't believe this," but on the other it fits right in with the stupidity, cruelty, and callous neglect I've faced the last few years.

Weren't we trying to revamp this system so it fucking WORKED? At least a LITTLE? This is bloody terrifying. I rely on medicaid myself; if they told me I was out I'd have NOTHING.

Things don't have to work in a recession. That's pretty much what I'm hearing. My disability and personal pain do not outweigh the value of a dollar, even as the dollar is worth less and less.

Now, if I screw up or miss a deadline, I'm screwed. If they do that... I'm screwed. Nothing bad happens to them.

Because it's evil! Obviously. My personal answer is that it seems to result in people at the top who are at least as abusive and hypocritical as the ones we end up with in capitalism, just in somewhat different ways, and shortages of goods and service.

I'm in a somewhat unusual position in that I know that Canada, despite its sometimes lauded universal health care, is a place a Chiarian really would not wish to live in, because all the Canadian Chiarians on my e-mail lists are forced to go to TCI in New York to get anything of any good done.

One has to wonder how many people actually have died because of this kind of obfuscation. Our local newspaper recently ran a story about a woman who died after her electricity was shut off and her oxygen machine stopped working.

I can't even imagine how many, but I'm sure the number is high, far too high. With how things are today, there are people who would say something like she should have gotten oxygen by pulling it up from her bootstraps.

I called both Medicaid and my congressman's offices today, and those I spoke to told me that all I could do was wait and sounded like they really didn't give a damn.
