The True Power of the Akatsuki: Boring Me to Death

I'm mostly enjoying Naruto: Shippuden, but the current storyline where our protagonists face ridiculously powerful enemies who keep pulling new abilities and ways to use them out of their asses keeps boring me. Like, is it supposed to be tense when ( spoilers )

anime, naruto

IIRC, once they past Itachi things pick up significantly. The fight still takes waaaaaay too long but I'm used to that in shonen.

Yes, but then there's the long talk over the inert clone reiterating and enlarging on what they'd already said about the Jinchuriki, while Itachi and Shark Boy talk about how much more powerful they actually are themselves and the Sand council talks advantage of Gaara's kidnapping to badmouth him and try to abandon him to make sure he can't build a power base among the Sand's people. The council thing was more interesting, but it was still an episode in which everyone was standing or sitting around talking.

That's why I can't really get into SUPERMAN; if he's invulnerable, and nothing can hurt him, you know he's going to win!

I was able to get into the first two Christopher Reeves Superman movies because of the capacity for his Superman to get emotionally hurt. Also, watching him shift from Clark to Superman to Clark just with posture and facial expressions when he's considering whether he should reveal his secret identity to Lois was incredible. Otherwise, no.

Emotionally yeah- but physically he's inviolate. Nothing can hurt him, so there's no tension. I had the *opposite* problem during BUFFY season 5- Glory/Glorificus was rather physically susceptible for a Goddess- shouldn't she just have laughed at Buffy's attempts to punch her and then pulled her head, arms and legs off and flossed with them?!

There were a lot of things wrong with the Glory storyline.

as you know I download the subbed stuff, but I'd quit watching around I dunno...105 because it was just the ssdd for like 4 episodes (I won't go into details to spoil, but they were training naruto in new battle technique and just yeah....rinse lather repeat rinse lather repeat) I kept downloading them but wasn't watching them, then when the computer went "BLARGH" all over me I went back and tried to catch up, the akatsachoo bless you whatthefuckever get more interesting later on as does sasuke, but it takes a while.

I'm getting annoyed by how long it's taking the series to get our ninjas to the Akatsuki's hideout or whatever. The fight scenes really can be far too long and too "rinse lather repeat rinse lather repeat."
