I'll give this a shot. Gacked from kroki_refur:

Comment with a story I've written, and I will tell you something I knew, learned, or wondered about while writing it that didn't make it onto the page.

Glass Houses!

An Austrian fan sent me a long, great letter about Vienna. Some of the stuff made it into "Glass Houses"--like the stuff about Viennese German and how only Farfarello would draw attention--but a lot wouldn't fit, like the Danube River, Fiaker, and Austrian cuisine.

Oh wow. So you got a crash-course on Vienna. :P That's neat.

I also had one more belated thing to share about "Glass Houses." At times I've considered setting it at a particular time, maybe early 2000s to put it closer to the time the show was current but eventually decided to have it be an indefinite time, which works well with how it's taking 6+ years to complete.

But during the New York City arc I considered having Brad warn his father against going to work at the World Trade Center one day, although he wasn't sure which day and would tell his father to keep a mental eye open for it. I didn't end up doing it because 9/11 remained too raw for me.

Knowing Goku and all the times he heard about eating Sanzo, I figured that he had to have taken a taste sometime. Gojyo was the interrupting voice of my self that could not slash Sanzo/Goku due to how young Goku seems at that point and the way Sanzo has so much more power in their regular relations. This may change depending on how Minekura resolves the Ukoku battle, but it's already looking more likely that I may be able to pair them in the future.

I feel like a thousand futurefics are on hold until that fight is over. But they've both grown up a hell of a lot, and that does make a difference...

I haven't been able to write any fic in the fandom while this battle continues to be unresolved, but yeah they've both come such a long way.

"Those Old Familiar Places": The person whose request I'd fulfilled making it had hope for more time spent in Hawaii, but Carbondale had interested me more. Also, the alien sighting was something people claimed actually happened, and I found it while putting out a Google net on information about the area. Mulder and Krycek's conversation about franchises vs. mom-and-pop businesses was an important aspect of the story for me. I felt it was important to have them talking about more than just what directly related to the mission at hand.

"Nostalgia": I wondered if people guessed all the in-jokes and references to my other X-Files fic put in there.

"Let Destiny Ride": I don't remember much, but I know that it had come out of being happy to see a few crazy, slashy episodes after too long a run of crap.

"This Time": When that one Angel episode strongly suggested that the visions had been passed on by a kiss and love, then showed Angel with the visions, you know I had to do something with that. I continued hoping Doyle would come back to ( ... )

Hey,

Familiar- I loved the Carbondale factoids and the mom & pop conversation- how easily M & K fell back into old, not-so-painful routine. The line where Mulder thinks about huge things tunneling through the earth? Yeah, I didn't need to read that at 2am *g*

Nostalgia- Loved the Dew Drop Inn and Scully's lethal eyebrow, and the reference to Sam & Ralph, the sheepdog and wolf *g*

TWO GUYS- I used to blame most of the slashiness of the show on Ryan, but I've learned a few interesting things since, and now I think it's Richard *eg*. I got into watching the show because I wanted to see if they were as slashy as your fics. Yup *g*

"This Time". A review in a (straight)TV magazine over here mentioned that since in regular-canon Doyle passed the gift to Cordy via a kiss, "you'd think they'd have thrown us a bone and shown Doyle snogging Angel, for pete's sake!". In an interview with Whedon for FIREFLY, he offhandedly mentioned he was flirting with bringing back Doyle as a Big Bad before Glenn died. I'm glad that didn't happen...

Heh heh.

The Dew Drop Inn really exists, but I never stayed there. I had to give it a mention.

Two Guys was a show I had to write slash for because it was so there.

I would have been so pissed off if Whedon had brought him back as a villain.

A conversation I had with someone assigning the Deadly Sin roles to Schwarz led me to such intriguing mental images in Schuldig's case that I had to do something with it. I'd actually gotten the homunculus' name when I'd asked my f'list for the translation of "Nobody" on the basis of a fic idea I later decided not to pursue.

I'd also hoped that somebody would be inspired to draw Niemand. *g* I will get back to this fic someday.

I'm so glad daegaer picked that one, so I don't have to choose...

When I first imagined the story in the ER at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital with the post-surgical cerebro-spinal fluid leak, Schuldig was much more mentally broken and damaged. When I came back to actually write out the story about two years later, he was much better off and more functional as I'd had more time to live and deal with my condition.

I actually agonized a bit over what he'd do with his car regarding getting to the airport. I didn't like the idea of it being stuck in or impounded from Heathrow's parking. Weird, huh?
