Chapter 1 of Hyperion Rising is sitting at 2300 words, and I just finished the Elvoret fight, so that's about halfway, I think? Gonna try and get this thing posted to
moogle_workshop before midnight tonight, so we'll see if I actually make it to the ballroom scene, or if I cut it a little short.

*unreasonably excited for this*
Wait, I'm going to be busy all tomorrow, so I probably won't be able to comment immediately. Going to see Thor with Liv!
So, uh, what's so good about Good Omens?

Thor! AGH I WANNA SEE THAT SO BAD. *envious* Have fun~ ^^
Good Omens is fantastic. It's a humorous look at the Christian Apocalypse, from the perspective of an angel who used to guard the Garden of Eden (Aziraphale) and the demon who tempted Eve (Crowley). They've been living on Earth since the beginning of time, and are quite fond of it (and each other) so they don't want the world to end, and try to stop it. Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman are both brilliant writers, and the book is chock-full of amazing things like: "[Crowley was] an angel who did not so much Fall as Saunter Vaguely Downwards." Also the Horseman of War is a hot chick arms dealer who rides a red motorcycle, and Pestilence retired after the discovery of penicillin, so the third Horseman is Pollution. It's pretty much just fabulous and awesome.

If you like intertextuality, there's tons of references (as tends to be the case with Terry Pratchett's stuff, actually) mentioned and joked about and parodied. I'm still finding new ones every time I read through it, and I've read it a good few times. (I'm a chronic re-reader.) But besides the funny stuff there's a lot about relationships - not necessarily the romantic kind (though you should see the fandom's convictions on that one) and what makes people tick. I don't know. I found it funny and silly and touching all at the same time.
(Although, be warned, Aziraphale hates Australia. XD)

Obviously its because we're secretly the same person.
*will continue to make up ludicrous reasons of why our interests are so similar, lol*
(Actually, Gaiman's just the best fantasy writer there is, and he's close enough to literary that I don't feel weird recommending him to anyone. And Good Omens is just hilarious.)

You're actually me, born twice, sent forward through time two years because of The Powers That Be messing things up! Or maybe I'm you, born twice, sent backwards through time.
...and across half the world.
(Yeah, I know, nobody will give you funny looks for recommending Gaiman - but then again I run on 'yes, I read fantasy. I love it. Screw off if you hate on people who read fantasy.' xD)

But its obviously true. *serious nod*
(Yeah, I'm that way about my own reading of fantasy, but when it comes to recommending things, I'm a little warier.)
