Some people

don't seem to really want to be your friend...never make comments to your posts...never respond to any comments you make to their posts...act like you don't exist...why is it that you keep them...are the numbers really that important?

I don't know why it is, but I seem to be having the same happening to me. I guess I just keep people on there because I do care about them and want to know what's happening in their lives... Plus, LJ is an easy way of keeping people updated from the other side of the world...

you are very correct when you say it is an easy way to keep up with people, esp. people you don't see in the flesh.

I dont get it either. I go thru every so often and delete those folks! :-P

To be honest, some people's posts aren't worth responding to or they post the same thing over and over. Not that the person isn't worth it -- just their posts.

Sometimes, though, I don't have time when I first read the message and I forget to go back and respond. Or, I just missed the message.

Because even though they may never comment, I'm sure they still read every now and then and would comment if I really needed their opinion. After all, the journal is really just for me, but if they like to tag along so be it. The companionship is comforting.

if i'm being totally honest, i don't think any LJ that has postings that some segment of the public/friends can read is strictly just for the writer ... if that were the case all posts would be private or not even on the internet ... i think LJ, at it's base, is a tool for interaction; but that's just how i feel about it.

My feeling is this, I post in Lj because I would never stick to a diary if it were just for me. The fact that other people care about my life is enough motivation for me to document it. The fact that I document certain events and feelings makes it even moreso that I will be likely to change the things I don't like and enhance the things I do. I use it as a tool for reflection. Interaction is nice, but not necessary. But then of course I don't go to psychotherapy or confessional, so this is a cheaper, less restrictive alternative if you will.
