I enjoyed it, though it did suffer from having to get across a ton of exposition at the expense of developing the characters. Only Ian's scholar gave us a glimpse of his inner self. Alas, Paul Bettany was kind of wasted, but I was very favorably impressed by his unclothed derriere. :D
The flashbacks didn't bother me much. My favorite was the double exposure effect of seeing Newton's contemporaries at the same time Hanks & Tatou were entering Westminster Abbey.
Mainly, it seemed like much ado about nothing, though. It seems to me that Jesus could still be considered divine even if he'd had a child by a mortal woman. Am I missing something here?

I don't know if you're missing anything, but it seems to me that it would have been more unusual if Jesus WASN'T married with children, particularly in that time period - and my husband who's a devout Catholic agrees with me. I kind of like the idea, myself - but that's probably because I have a problem with the way the Catholic church views women, which is a whole nother discussion :D
