1958. The Enchantress Series

In 1958, Life Magazine invited Marilyn Monroe and photographer Richard Avedon to recreate images of five celebrated actresses of different eras.  Entitled “Fabled Enchantresses,” the piece was part of the magazine’s December 22 “Christmas” issue and included an article by Marilyn’s playwright husband, Arthur Miller, entitled “My Wife, Marilyn.”

She looks just amazing as Lillian Russel. I think only Theda Bara can 'do' Theda Bara, though. Marilyn looks intriguing in her own right, but does nothing to truly capture Bara's presence.

She looks so great as Marlene!! She's totally unrecognizable as Marilyn IMO when done up as Harlow & Clara Bow...the make-up artists did a tremendous job!
