After the body has totally dried, it has very little smell, especially after removing the organs. Also, cadavers are kept frozen so that medical and art students can work with them, meaning all the flesh is usually not removed but specific areas are exposed for study: tendons, muscles around ribs, and that type of thing.

I was thinking the same thing that art_thirst said about the dried up body ... probably smelled more like old leather rot, than anything else. However, I don't think they had good sources for refrigeration then, so who knows.

Am I right in thinking that the second body does not have any legs?

Great shots ... thanks for posting them!! And, the second one featuring the woman is a wonderful find ... it was very uncommon to allow women into a dissection theater, and more than rare to allow them to participate in the actual dissection. I would like to find out who she was!! :)

That was a great *scroll down* moment.

"Handsome gentlemen, great moustache, OMG DEAD GUY!"

I love that there is a woman in the second picture. You have to wonder how hard she fought in order to be able to learn, and to participate in that study. Even nurses were considered "too delicate" to study cadavers back then.

Yeah, not sure which is more interesting in the first photo, the dead guy or the mustaches, or the little guy without one. lol
Interesting with the woman in the second one. I wonder how many women were allowed into that field back then.
