I remember those; *shudder*. Even as a child I always felt those peas had an interesting consistency.

They were good to put in straws and shoot them at people! Do you know there is a restaurant in New York that actually serves retro TV dinners to their diners?

Me! Me! *waves hand*

Actually, they tasted just fine and my mom would offer them as a 'choose-your-own-dinner' night every once in awhile. She was a great cook but sometimes she just didn't feel like cooking. My sister and I had no objections to TV dinners since we didn't eat them every night like some unfortunate households. :)

I think infrequency was the key to TV dinners. As long as they were a treat, they were great fun. And my Da would always let me eat my dessert first!

I remember these and I actually really liked them! Mom would buy them for me during the summer for me to have for lunch on Friday, grocery-shopping-and-cleaning day. It made it easier for her and I thought it was a treat as well so win-win! :D

Some weren't as good as others, but I liked the fried chicken one a lot and they have a battered fish that wasn't bad either. As a treat, they were fine and we even have them once in a while now.

*nods*

The chicken was my favorite, too, and I enjoyed the turkey, pork and Salisbury steak dinners.

TV dinners have come a long way, baby, and I purchase one every now and again so I can use them on those nights when I'm just too tired to do the cooking from scratch bit. Swanson is still popular, and I like Marie Callendar, Lean Cuisine and Smart Ones. :)

I will confess that, during the week, I have a Smart Ones enree and a small salad for lunch.

My favorite - the turkey and mashed potatoes - apparently my tastes haven't altered that much.

I don't remember the German or Polynesian ones, but we would get the turkey or fried chicken ones all the time. My mother worked so these sorts of things were a blessing for her. The only thing I didn't like about them was the foil trays. If you scraped your metal fork or spoon against the foil it would take on a metallic taste. *shudder* Other than that the food was actually pretty good.

Hmmm, I don't remember that with the foil. Did you put the food on a plate or just bear with it?

Sorry - cold medicine is making me crazy spell today...

Eh, I would bear with it. It may just be a sensory sensitivity thing for me.

Hope your cold is better soon!

Lorne!

Thanks. It's at the annoying stage where I'm still too sick to do much, but not sick enough to keep from being bored at being stuck home.

I've never had a TV dinner, but I probably wouldn't try the sweet and sour one. It is surprisingly difficult to get the flavor right when it comes to sweet and sour sauce.

But if you didn't know... It took me years to get used to the 'real' flavor of sweet and sour pork because of it. Then after a trip to China, during which time as we had sweet and sour EVERYTHING, I no longer have any taste for it.
