Is the Moral Majority dead?

May 15, 2007 18:10

Taking a Clement pause for a few minutes, I wanted to mention that, for those of you who haven't heard, Jerry Falwell died. I first read it on the WoW forums (mentioned by TB's #1 asshole Devinicus, no less) and then saw it again on the NCF forum. What's kind of bothering me is that I haven't seen a single response that isn't "OMG HES FINALLY DEAD ( Read more... )

death, jerry falwell

I knew the man. I went to his school. I'm not sad he's dead... But I'm not about to throw a party either. He really wasn't the healthiest specimen of human and while I was at the school, I used to wait for the day he failed to show up for convocation due to being hospitalized again.

Quite. I only went for a year. Pulled out because I couldn't stand the whole being taught to hate myself for my sexuality any longer.

I respect the whole death is serious thing.

Unfortunately I'm in the rejoicing camp. He was a hatemonger.

I'm only sorry it wasn't sooner and more painful.

There was a comment on Fark that summed up my feelings (fleetingly) pretty well.
"You should only speak good of the dead.

He is dead.

Good."

But I mean nothing personal, as in, I am glad he is no longer a negative influence in the world. I am not glad that a person is dead. Politically, I loathe him. Personally, I do not. He's just another person, and for that I can hold no grudge. I will not miss his voice but I can't hate a person who others love (for non-political) reasons; IE, family, friends, etc.
