I am too insane with emotion to write a proper post. My icon sums it up. But I have been thinking. So here is the question: IS SNAPE THE REAL HERO OF IT ALL?! Spoilers within, obv.

I Can Has Theory Now? )

I think it was her self-sacrifice that saved Harry, her willingness to die for him, not the fact that she refused to save herself when given the opportunity. She'd have died to save him anyway, surely?

I could be wrong, too many subtle things and I am not subtle :(

But more than her willingness to die for him, it was that she actually DID die for him. She didn't have to die, she wasn't SUPPOSED to die, but seh did. Whereas if Voldemort wen there with the intention of killing them all, then yes, I'm suer she would've still stood in front of Harry with her arms outstretched, but her death would have been inevitable from the get-go. As it turns out, it wasn't. She didn't die because Voldemort set out to kill her, she died to try to save her son.

I could just be forcing it. I guess I am just mad that Snape got taken out by a snake D: and yeah, there's so much subtleness and possibilities it's like D:

Ever since Voldemort said that, I frowned and wondered why. She was muggle-born; he should have been jumping at the chance to kill her. So, yeah, I think he did try to follow Snape's wish, which makes its even more horribly ironic when we see the fallout and then, later, Snape's own death.

I never even thought of it before! and I dunno why. I mean, surely he would want her dead more than James. It just never occured to me to think about it...SO MUCH DEATH AND POSSIBILITIES and magic :( and Hedwig :|

I see Ewa's point, especially with dead!Dumbledore going on at Harry about how his willingness to die made all the difference...

But I like your theory more, so I'll stick with it! :D

I figure that her willingness would not have mattered should Voldemort went there with the intention of killing her. She died even though she was never meant to - simply to save him. SO IT WORKS, DAMN IT. Snape is the hero :(

I think that you may well be onto something. Especially as this infers that it was Snape's love for Lily which did the set-up and Lily's love for Harry which delivered the knock-out, which seems very, very JKR!

I mentioned this idea in my DH post with a hat-tip to you, as it does seem remarkably plausible!
