Rangitoto oil painting

I went to another oil-painting class this week. It's a pity it wasn't in August or it could count for naarmamo which starts today. Oh well, all my August stuff will be with graphics software including experimenting with Artrage.

This is great--you're very talented. Art is a great way to make the demons go away. I need to start doing more. Looking forward to your Naarmamo entries.

Well, they won't be in oils like that!

Oh, this is gorgeous. Such a tranquil scene, and I love the way you've done the waves. Did you work from a photograph or is it from memory?

There was a small photo to look at, but we really only used it to get the shape of Rangitoto right. We were free to make the clouds, tree, yachts, and waves look the way we wanted; the photo didn't even have yachts or waves. :-) They made the picture look so much better, I thought, and we could put them where we liked, and as many as we liked.

Wow, thanks! I'm pleased with it overall, but I know there are places I'd like to have done better.

What everyone else has said. It's a tremendous painting. I'd be happy to have it hanging on my living-room wall.

Aww, thanks! :-D One of my young relatives did a sea painting I think is so much better, but she's had more practice, having done an art and design degree. I think this and the poppy one will look good when they're properly matted and framed though. I just have to wait a couple of weeks till this one's really dry.

Oh, I think this is marvelous. I'm so glad you added the close up shots. I love being able to see the texture and brush strokes. You might not think it's worth selling, but I think it is! It's really beautiful! I love the reflections in the water of the boats. Brillantly done. Makes me want to take a painting course!

Thank you! The guy is so good at teaching techniques and clever tips he's developed.

You should! These were day courses where you paint a picture in three hours, but I'm tempted to take a six-week course someone else is offering next term in acrylics. I'd like to see which I prefer. It's easy to correct mistakes in oils, but acrylics have a vibrancy I like. Plus I have some my sister gave me. :-)
