The Triplicate Hobbit

So, the news was released today that Peter Jackson is going to make 'The Hobbit' into three movies, not two, and heaven strike him down he if attempted to make one movie out of a solitary book. Really.

2.I just get the feeling that Peter Jackson has, either by the consent of the studios or his own ego or I-don't-know-what, risen above editors and criticism, being given free reign because as far as Hollywood is concerned, he is printing money

Honestly, all Hollywood cares about anymore is the money. Of course there is a practical side to it - money is necessary. But I think studios underestimate their audiences - TV Tropes agrees with me. People don't go to movies anymore because there's nothing fun about it - it's just more remakes and 50th sequels and stupid "comedies" that aren't really that funny.
It would be nice if Peter Jackson hadn't been lured by $$$ instead of quality, but sadly that's probably the case, or at least part of it.

And, speaking as a fan myself, I don't think "the fans want it" is a blanket, catch-all excuse.

Especially because if you know anything about fans, you know they all have different opinions.

6.Stop setting a precedent, it's bad enough they're making two movies apiece out of Breaking Dawn and ( ... )

What you said. I really don't understand how you can split The Hobbit into three movies, even bringing in the White Council and the fight against Sauron the Necromancer. I really don't.

Mmph, March. The idea was interesting but I don't know if I liked the execution as much as the idea.

I need to read more Terry Pratchett. I'm thinking of starting the Night Watch novels.
