Requesting manga/manhwa/comics recommendations

Feb 28, 2007 19:52

I've been meaning to ask for some more manga/manhwa recommendations (you can recommend other comics as well :)), since I'm already caught up on most of the stuff I'm currently buying (The Wallflower, Fullmetal Alchemist, Vampire Knight, Nana). In fiction, my favourite genres are sf/fantasy and romance. I also like some action, some yaoi, and not ( Read more... )

Forgot: there is also Absolute Boyfriend, a cute short funny one by Yu Watase (can you tell I am a fan).

I also really really love Rurouni Kenshin. LOVE. Hot Gimmick is kinda cool but I think you might have problems liking the hero (I did). 'Can't Lose You' is a manhwa and really is like a crazy kdrama (two girls, one rich and mean one poor and cheery look alike and poor one is hired to be body double. There are weird parentage issues, star-crossed romance with icy arranged fiance of rich girl who actually falls for poor one blah blah).

Oh, oh. Kare Kano. Unabashedly shoujo, not as good as any of the other ones I mentioned, but fluffy fun anyhow.

And Hana Kimi. Which is crack. I also like MeruPuri by the same artist as Vampire Knight but the story is oddball so not sure of your take on it.

I'll be back with more.

I'm reading the Full House manhwa. It's a bit different to the dorama adaptation, but I'm enjoying it just fine :)

Sorry to butt in like this ... I normally wouldn't try to make recommendations for someone I don't know, but I've seen that you also like several of my favorite authors (P.C. Hodgell, Martha Wells, Dorothy Dunnett, Neil Gaiman, and of course Diana Wynne Jones), so I thought it might not hurt.

I've only recently started reading manga, but I've very much enjoyed these two series:

Samurai Deeper Kyo - A huge ensemble cast fantasy quest-adventure set loosely against a backdrop of the early Tokugawa era, with several characters roughly based on historical figures. The artwork is very nice (link is to a gallery on a French fansite), and some reviewers have noted that the combat scenes (yes, there are a fair number of those, complete with exotic technique names being shouted out ...) are unusually understandable. The first 2-3 volumes are a little rough, until the author gets into the groove. A good balance of angst and adventure, IMO, with humor sprinkled throughout.

Saiyuki - I only just started this recently - it's like a tasty ( ... )

Thank you very much for the recommendations! Both of those sound very much like something I might like. I'll have to check them out :).

I just checked your journal - a bit late, I know - and really liked what I saw (first two posts were abotu DWJ and Lymond Chronicles!), so I'm adding you to my f-list.

Well, I'm flattered! I'll try to keep it interesting ... .

(FYI, icon is my fave Samurai Deeper character, Sanada Yukimura.)
