Good news! We have many programs in the works, registrations are coming in (thank you early registering people! It makes things a lot easier for us!!) and we have many wonderful volunteers helping out with con preparations. In the next couple of weeks we want to nail down our programming/schedule and have a firmer idea of numbers, so, with that in mind...
Registering
Are you thinking of coming? Register by February 6, before the price goes up to 52 pounds! (It's currently 40 pounds.) Registration will be open until March 20th for both Supporting and Attending memberships, however, you need to be registered by March 6th to be featured in the program.
Not able to come but would like a con DVD and the warm fuzzies of knowing you helped make it all happen? (And our eternal love?) Buy a supporting membership! \o/ They're only 16 pounds.
Premieres
We know many of you will have been busy not only with annual festivities, but also with
festivids assignments... but you know what makes a great post-
festivids project?! (While we all wait for the go-live!) A Vidukon premiere! Any subject, any fandom... the only prerequisite for entry into this show is that the vid has not been shown or posted previously. The premieres show will be on Saturday night, with lovely buffet dinner, and of course your vid will appear on the con DVD. Even if you've never submitted a premiere before, have a think about doing so--it's less scary than it sounds and I can vouch for that personally because my first ever premiere was for the first Vidukon. :)
You don't have to tell us you are planning to make a premiere--just submit it by the deadline of February 27, following the directions on our website.
Programming
While we have most of our schedule worked out, we do want to now firm up the remaining shows. You can help! Our brainstorming post was a big success, thank you to everyone that participated. We still have some slots in the schedule to fill, so here's round 2.
Remember: in order to go ahead, shows need support and a volunteer willing to do the VJing or run the panel. Below are a list of shows proposed so far that need one or other to tip them over from 'possible' into 'definite'! :) Comment in support of them, and more importantly, comment if you are interested in running one of these. Also, we still welcome any additional new ideas so don't feel it's too late to speak up if you have a brilliant idea! We have more vidshows currently than panels, so we may have to bear that in mind.
Made in the UK vidshow (1 hour)
We need a volunteer (or volunteers!) to VJ this show! The only requirements are to find recent vids of shows made in the UK. This cannot be difficult, people! :) You can/should ask for recommendations from other people so this is a really good straightforward option for anyone considering VJing. We want this one to happen as it's a Vidukon tradition... yell out if you'd be willing to take this one on!
Shows that have VJs but need a teensie bit more love to go ahead
Pipe up in the comments if you want these to go ahead!
Vidshow: Animal vids (VJ:
jackiekjono)
Vidshow: Squee vids show (VJ:
cesy)
Panel: Vidding 'optimised' , ie how to vid quickly (
buffyann)
Panel: comparing comedy mash-up and machinima with vids, particularly looking at gender and culture within each. (VJ:
killalla)
Shows without a definite volunteer but with some interest/support
Interested in being a VJ or Panelist? Do any of these ideas, put forward in Round 1 without 'takers', take your fancy? Let us know! Or let us know what else you have in mind in the comments.
- Panel: How to survive an Insane Vidding Project
- Vids that 'break the rules' (could be a show or panel or both)
- Panel: Excellent shot choice and use
- Panel: History of vidding
- Panel: Transitions Galore
- Panel: The art of the opening sequence
- Panel: Music/Song Mixing (More of a "why" do it than a "how")
- VidShow: My eyes! My eyes! (Vids with tons of pretty and visual stimulation. in a good way.)
- Vidshow: Mood vids
- Vidshow: Newbies' vids
- Vidshow: Vids that subvert gender
- AMV vidshow (of recent big AMVs)
Note: As previously, we will be centralising comments for programming discussions
on Livejournal. Please comment there. Thanks!
