I was in one of those rather morose moods where
mallyns and I were discussing feedback. Which my basic thought has always been more toward, I'd like to know how many people actually read this fic all the way through and enjoy over having super-detailed feedback. Super-detailed being more like the cherry on the sundae. Or possibly I'm just a sugar addict

If I was to use it, I definitely think I'd stick the poll at the end of the fic. Of course, my original idea was just to have one choice - "I read and I liked." More counter like, but wouldn't count the people who didn't like it or didn't actually read it.

I'd recommend that if you do have a rating system, have a "I read this" as a separate poll question. That way, people who don't want to leave feedback (or don't want to leave negative feedback) can make themselves known without having to rate the story.

Now send me feedback. I'll make it easy:
Dear Stulti (stultiloquentiaATyahooDOTca),
Your story is
A) hot, funny, beautiful, and punctual. But what the hell are you smoking?
B) a dire augury for the Elf pr0n you've been threatening to write.
C) an embarrassment. For the love of little apples, take it down this instant.
D) all of the above.
Generally speaking, I don't like having my opinions dictated to me -- what if the story's an 8.5, or a dance 10, looks 2? I already leave feedback for nearly every story I read and like, so I think polls would just make me peevish.

I wonder if there would be wank - the people who use polls vs. the people who don't and think they're cooler because they don't. Probably.
Personally, I like the 'what the hell are you smoking?' one. *g*
