I was in one of those rather morose moods where mallyns and I were discussing feedback. Which my basic thought has always been more toward, I'd like to know how many people actually read this fic all the way through and enjoy over having super-detailed feedback. Super-detailed being more like the cherry on the sundae. Or possibly I'm just a sugar addict.

Anyway, I was wondering the ethics behind putting some sort of poll after your fic. Has someone tried it? (I'm going to assume yes, since there are no original ideas.) It was definitely a thought coming off of the rating stars on auto-fanfic archives. What are the ethics? Will it ruin feedback comments? Will it make people less likely to fill out polls in general? (As lornelover says, all the lurkers come out when you post a poll.) Would fandom be uniform about it? Does it make some sort of elite status for paid accounts, considering free ones can't do polls?
