Lilies

So: better to get cut ones that'll die in a few days but be left alone, or plant some that'll probably get mowed down by some bored teenager?

Why would lilies that you've planted get mowed down?

((From an OOC standpoint, the bigger problem for my family leaving stuff on graves was it always getting stolen. >.> ))

"Because the people who mow the grass in cemetaries would rather not take the time to go around the plants..."

((Yeah, people suck sometimes. You know what's REALLY creepy? In the town where I grew up, in Nortern Connecticut, there's a farm that makes maple syrup. They tap trees in all the public spaces in town. Including the cemetaries. EEWWW!))

Well, that's stupid... ya can't just destroy offerings to the dead. That's a sure fire way to get haunted.

Maybe you could put the plant in a clay pot? That way it'd mess up the grass clipping machine thingy if it tried to go over it.

((You're right... there is something inately creepy about sticky, oozy stuff in cemetaries.))

"They'd throw them out. Or they'd get stolen...people don't respect the dead very much anymore."

((Definitely.))

"If they are cut, will they grow back?

My people leave food for our ancestors."

She shakes her head a little. "They're cut way down to the ground and there's not usually enough left to grow back. Maybe I should bring them some food...what kind would you suggest?"

He thinks for a moment. "Whenever there was a celebration we would save some of the food and and ale or mead and bring it to the family graves. So I would suggest things that you would eat on special occasions.

We would also leave sacrifices, but that seems to have fallen out of favor with humans."

"Okay. What sorts of sacrifices?"
