At some later point, when Hans has returned and put out cream (of which Alfdis has partaken), the darkest kitty in the house nudges Ali's cheek with some urgency, a plaintive tone in her mental voice.
Not the glare! He would rather refight WW I than face the glare!
"I am sorry," he says again. "I had no idea." He did not even know the cats were telepathic, until earlier. "I shall make certain to exercise more caution in the future."
The glare is interrupted now, by a yawn and a stretch. Ali considers going back to sleep, but Hans is going to be busy to snuggle, and she has things to do. So now that Hans has been set right, Ali toddles off to see about all the little tasks left in her day.
"Oh, Hans? They're not supposed to eat the plants, either, no matter how much they beg."
Aliii? I don't feel good...

Perhaps he should have argued more. After all, even with all the catching up he has done, there are still parts of the modern world that elude him.
That would have been a bad idea. Trifle not with pregnant women. He believes he made the correct choice.

Point well taken.
He should probably check up on the cat now, which is what he's going to do.
