Well, botanize_this seems to have disappeared. :-( To answer your Polytrichum questions ... you're going to need cross sections of the leaves to identify to species. Here's the web page from the Bryophyte Flora of North America http://efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=50&taxon_id=126484 The "lamellae" that the key talks about are the hairs that are on the midrib -- so you'll need cross sections and a microscope. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!
