Well, botanize_this seems to have disappeared. :-( To answer your Polytrichum questions ... you're going to need cross sections of the leaves to identify to species. Here's the web page from the Bryophyte Flora of North America

The "lamellae" that the key talks about are the hairs that are on the midrib -- so you'll need cross sections and a microscope. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

There does not appear to be a comment on the sedge. You're correct, Serguei, this is Carex sprengelii.
