Player Plot Brainstorming Post!

H’okay. So you want to run your own plotline in game and you’re not sure where to start. Or maybe you’re not sure who would be interested. Or maybe you just have a really sweet idea and aren’t really sure how to make it happen.

NO PROBLEM.

Vertizens, you have the technology. You have the capability to build your very own player-run plot. Your character can be the star of the show. Better than they were before. Better...stronger...faster...and full of beans. It can become the Six Million Bean Capybara.

Seriously though, we’re glad you’re reading this because it means you’re interested in shaking things up, and we are all in favor of further tormenting our characters. Just about all of them!

So where to start?

~~~~~
One of the great things about player plots is that they often revolve around the characters of the game, rather than the plot. Let’s be honest, sometimes this is pretty often because it isn’t always the case that game plot will give your characters a chance to shine. By running your own storyline, you get a chance to truly pull them into the spotlight. This means more RP for you (which is what we’re all after, isn’t it?), more CR with other characters (another goal for RP!), and best of all, fun with friends.
We suggest thinking about aspects of your character that you would like to draw to the forefront, and potential situations in which that would be possible.   For example:
“I want my character to ____________.” (get sick, fall in love, get trapped in a well, confront their phobia, get amnesia, etc.)
“My character would hate it if _______________.” (a tree fell on them, the water in their pod was turned off, they were covered in bees, etc.)
“Is it possible to do an event that involves ______________?” (lemurs, hallucinogenic mushrooms, capybara jockeys, etc.)
Keep in mind that player-plots are NOT limited to circumstances caused by the characters themselves. Vertiline itself is a wide, vibrant world full of possibility. Things can be built. Things can be altered, things can be destroyed (though it is generally frowned upon to destroy dwellings. Who would do that?  It’s so mean!). There are people and animals and plants and rocks and natural occurrences that can happen.
Even though it isn’t written about, bears still shit in the woods, dead trees fall over, grass grows, and hundreds of other things.
Your mod team is not opposed to allowing player events that require a temporary change in the environment or would result in permanently altering the setting.  In fact, we welcome plots of this kind.  Our game’s plot is constantly evolving to accommodate player actions--believe us when we say we relish the challenge.  Please, bring up your ideas with us so we can assist you in coordinating a group effort!
