I'd like to start this post by saying that I really hope that we never need to do away with any of our tags. I love them all, and I think they are all absolutely fabulous
( Read more... )
That's my general thought. I can see the point of having a generic "challenge response" tag, but if someone wants to read something from, say, vm_whatif, they should just go check out that comm - which would probably be linked up in some of the challenge response entries.
I think the generic "challenge response" tag seems redundant, especially with the specific challenge tags for each challenge.
I also don't always like tagging fic with both the individual characters and the pairing. I know it can help you find exactly what you're looking for, but when you have as many fics tagged with "logan" that are mostly "logan/veronica" fic, it can be difficult. Perhaps there was a way to just use character tags when they're the only focus of a fic (or a part of a shipper fic) to cut down on the number of uses for each tag.
I completely agree with the "only the focus" thing, but since we've got about 3 years of posts to dig through, it's hard to know which characters are the focus [and which are just mentioned] without reading all of the fics. And since I hardly have time to read fic at all anymore, that's not an option for me for even the current stuff - let alone the old stuff in the archives.
But, again, if we had some official taggers, they might be able to help out with that - depending on how much they wanted to take on. Of course, I should talk with Sarah before making any wholesale changes, but ... still. These are things that have been on my mind as of late. :)
[and, honestly, anything not Logan/Veronica would probably be considered "rare" since that's the predominant pairing; as for characters, I'd probably pare it down to non-regulars, but I'd have to look at usage counts before I do anything like that]
It would be hard, you're right, but it might be worth it for the person who wants Logan fic alone (and doesn't want to wade through all of the LV fic that comes with it.)
True enough, but I'm not sure about all the options. Sarah and I will have to have a marathon chat/phone/email/something session at some point, me thinks.
I absolutely adore having tags, and I'm really not sure how LJ functioned before them. I really only use the author/author-story tags, but I can see how some of the others could be helpful. I'd be happy to help tag old fics if you guys need any help. :)
I know, right?! I mean, it's so much easier to try to find an old post of mine about, say, actor: jensen ackles than it is to try to remember when I posted it - or just continuously hit the back button until I find it. :)
Tags are awesome. And if we need your help, you'll be the first to know. :) Thanks for the offer!
