Veronica wasn’t sure what most girls would do in a situation like hers. Not that she knew any girls in her situation. Most girls in her school didn’t have to deal with kissing their ‘best’ friend in a wild frenzy the same day their mother skipped town. No, Veronica was almost positive that the last few months of her life, made her nothing like the other girls she went to school with. Today she was going to take her messed up life to a whole new level, she mused as she walked toward her locker. She had decided after a weekend of seclusion what she really needed was a little pay back. It was time to take down the “fabulous” Lilly Kane and Veronica was going to enjoy every second of it. She looked at her watch and smirked, her plan was already in motion, with just a little help from Mac, and Lilly’s reign would be ending very soon.
She had spent the days since her mother’s disappearance either alone, or with her father. Everything about her felt different suddenly, like all that was pretty had been snatched away, and only ugliness was left. She wasn’t sure what she was supposed to say to people who offered their support. All that seemed to come out of her mouth was bitter and sarcastic remarks; she just couldn’t help herself. Her mother had left and no one could say anything that would bring her back. Meg and Mac had called numerous times, both reminding her that they were there for her. Casey had sent her a dozen yellow roses and left her a sweet voicemail telling her when she was ready he’d be there. Logan however had taken the more direct approach and pounded on her door two nights in a row begging her to talk to him. She had ignored him, and when that didn’t work her father had reluctantly asked him to leave.
Veronica didn’t know what to say to Logan anymore. Everything that had happened to them felt so unreal. The sweet friendship they had once shared was now almost as ugly as her relationship with Lilly. It was filled with lies and pain, and she had no idea what to do with the feelings she had for Logan. As she opened her locker she sighed as she stared blankly at the books in front of her. When she was little she had dreamed of happily ever afters. Now she was just happy to get through the day without crying or screaming. Happy ever after didn’t happen to most people, she had decided one night as she stared at old photographs. It was a myth parents told their children because they were too afraid to tell them the truth, that life sucked but if you were lucky you might have a shot at dying peacefully in the end.
“Oh my gosh! Did you hear about Lilly Kane?”
“Hear about it, I found the letter this morning in my inbox! I heard half the school got that email, she is such a whore!”
“Oh totally! I heard Carrie Bishop printed off like a hundred copies of that letter and is passing them out, how cool is that?”
“That is so awesome! Seriously I heard Lilly slept with all those bikers on the same night. That is just so gross!”
Veronica turned quickly when she heard the conversation behind her and saw two younger 09er girls talking loudly about the email they had received. Veronica smiled to herself as she carefully eyed the others in the hallway. She caught view of Madison Sinclair and Carrie Bishop whispering at Madison’s locker and Veronica knew Lilly’s fun had finally ended.
There was a second when Veronica had to question if she had made the right decision in taking Lilly down. Everything they had once shared was officially ruined and she knew they’d never get it back. She would never forget the Lilly she knew, the one that braided her hair and told her that they were both fabulous. She knew that wasn’t the same girl that had slept with Aaron Echolls, her Lilly wouldn’t have done that, the Lilly she was taking down wasn’t the same Lilly that she would someday remember with a smile.
“It’s everywhere!”
She heard the perky voice behind her and she smiled to herself as she slowly turned to face her friend. Meg was smiling brightly, her eyes shining as she looked down at Veronica.
“I know,” Veronica nodded, “I heard a couple girls talking about it.”
“I saw Dick and Kaz out in the parking lot and they were screaming at each other!” Meg laughed, “You should have seen them they looked furious!”
“At each other?” Veronica questioned, “Guess that makes sense, everything is going to change now Meg.”
“I know… it’s hard to wrap my head around it all.”
Veronica nodded her head and smiled as she caught Mac quickly walking toward them. She was wearing an unusual grin, one that Veronica wasn’t sure she’d ever saw on her face.
“Have you two been in the parking lot?” Mac questioned when she finally joined the other two girls, “The 09ers are turning on each other out there. It could seriously be the most amazing thing I have ever witnessed in my life.”
Meg clasped her hand over her mouth as she giggled, “I know it’s so weird I didn’t think everyone would turn on each other, just on Lilly.”
“And here I thought they were such a tight bunch.” Veronica shrugged, “How could I have been so wrong?”
The three laughed at her comment and for once things felt almost normal, but she knew nothing would ever be the same again. She realized that she was a different person now, but still just to have a reason to smile felt nice.
“Look,” Meg whispered pointing toward Madison’s locker.
Veronica turned quickly and saw a smiling Lilly heading toward Madison and her friends. She seemed completely oblivious to what was going on around her. Veronica knew what was coming and she couldn’t help but brace herself for the show.
“She has to know doesn’t she?” Mac questioned, “I mean how can she not know?”
“I don’t think she does.” Meg spoke just as Madison’s eyes widened a feet from them.
“You stupid whore!” Madison yelled out, “You slept with Dick! You knew about me and Dick and you totally went after him, you slut!”
“Looks like little Madi has quite the temper.” Veronica mused with a smirk.
“This is the best day of my life.” Mac grinned, “Seriously the best day ever!”
Veronica chuckled as she turned her attention back on Madison and Lilly. She saw Lilly’s eyes widen and then she watched as her former best friend smiled brightly.
“Geez Madison overreacting much?” Lilly questioned, “I did not go after Dick. I had him yes, but I never went after him, and besides he was a total embarrassment anyway. You do not have to worry about me going there again.”
“You’ve had every guy in the school!” Madison screamed.
“Ok so what are we talking about here?” Lilly asked as Veronica caught her roll her eyes at Madison, “How did you find out about that anyway?”
Madison took a step closer to Lilly, “We all know what a whore you are. Like everyone in Neptune got your email this morning! You’ve totally slept with the whole school.”
“Ok I think you’re off your meds again.” Lilly laughed, “I didn’t send anyone an email, I haven’t even checked my inbox in like a week.” Lilly took a step back and crossed her arms, “And Madison, call me a whore again and you’ll find a whole new diet plan, because when I get done with you, you’ll be lucky to suck soup through a straw!”
Veronica gasped when she saw a tall figure approaching Lilly and Madison. She closed her eyes and opened them again to see Logan standing behind Lilly. “Oh God.” She muttered to herself.
“All talk no action Lilly…Seriously I came to school today hoping for a good catfight.” Logan looked around and smiled brightly, “Anyone want to move this to the gym and toss in some mud? I’m sure the whole school would pay to watch you two fight over the biggest slut award,” he shrugged, “Too bad Lilly already has it in the bag.”
“God Logan do you ever shut up?” Lilly questioned.
“What I’m just speaking the truth. Come on Lilly, the entire PCH in one night? And Dick and Kaz? There’s really no competition.”
Veronica watched Lilly twirl around to face Logan. She was still smirking and Veronica knew things were about to get much worse. She moved slightly so she could get a better view curious to what Logan would say next.
“Do you want something Logan?” Lilly asked tossing her hair over her shoulder.
“Hmm I’m not sure, what are you charging these days Lil? I think I should at least get a discount, you know since I’ve already tried everything you have to offer?”
“Oooh and let me guess you’ve decided to come back for more?” Lilly asked arching an eyebrow.
Veronica swallowed hard at Lilly’s words as she felt a gentle hand touch her shoulder. She smiled when she saw that Meg was behind her smiling gently.
“Nah, I’m actually here to get a refund. Isn’t there a money back guarantee on used goods?”
“Drop dead Logan.”
“I prefer living thanks.”
“You know what, who cares what you prefer,” Lilly spoke rolling her eyes, “You’re so not worthy of all that is Lilly Kane.”
“Actually you’re value has went down considerably since early this morning Lilly,” Logan smiled, “In case you haven’t been clued in by now everyone knows that you are nothing but a cheap whore.” Logan crossed his arms as Lilly’s eyes widened, “Sometime early this morning, dear Lillian, anyone that is anyone at this fine educational institute received an email that told of a few of your many conquests.”
“My email,” Lilly suddenly spoke as her mouth dropped open, “You broke into my email!”
Veronica watched as she charged at Logan but he grabbed her hands quickly before Lilly had a chance to hit him.
“Me?” Logan laughed, “You give yourself way too much credit Lilly. I don’t care enough about you to take the time.”
Veronica watched in silence as Lilly looked around the hall. She felt her stomach flop when Lilly’s eyes landed on her. She felt Meg and Mac shuffle in closer to her and suddenly she felt herself smiling. She watched as Lilly marched toward her and she knew the time had finally come. Lilly’s eyes were wide and her mouth was twisted. Veronica knew Lilly’s temper but the look on her face was new, even for Veronica.
“You!” She yelled out at Veronica, “You did this!”
“And you did Dick and Kaz,” Veronica shrugged, “Guess that means those rumors about Dick weren’t true after all.”
Lilly rolled her eyes, “You little slut.”
“I think your mistaken Lilly, see you’re the slut, I’m just the bitch that outted you.” Veronica smiled.
Veronica heard a few gasps but ignored them as she glared at Lilly. She saw Logan watching from the other side of the hall, his eyes following her every move. She looked away from him and back to Lilly. She couldn’t let him get to her, not now.
“So is this like your revenge or something? You actually think you can ruin me Veronica Mars?” Lilly asked.
“I’m pretty sure I did ruin you Lilly Kane.” Veronica shot back, “Ask around, I’m sure everyone will agree.”
“I can have you arrested for this you know, breaking into my email? That is so against the law.”
“True,” Veronica smiled, “But I doubt you want the whole town reading that letter especially your parents.”
“Please, it’s not like they don’t know what I’m like.” Lilly laughed bitterly, “I slept with my ex boyfriend’s father, a few high school boys are nothing.”
“I doubt mommy dearest would approve of your choice in high school boys.” Veronica pointed out, “Know what I mean?” She added shooting a glare at Lilly.
Lilly rolled her eyes and took a few steps toward Veronica. Veronica backed up slightly as her back pressed against the cool lockers behind her. She saw that Meg and Mac hadn’t moved from their place beside her and Logan had almost moved closer.
“You’ll pay for this Veronica Mars,” Lilly growled, “You’ll pay in ways you’ll never see coming.”
“God Lilly you’re turning into a cartoon villain now.”
“You think this is funny Veronica?” Lilly questioned, “I know you’re totally proud of yourself right now, you and your geek friends,” she added glaring at Meg and Mac, “But you know me, you know who I am and you know what I can do.”
“You’re the fabulous Lilly Kane!” Veronica spoke adding a bit of fake cheerfulness to her voice, “Except your not fabulous Lilly, and your not wonderful or amazing either. It's time you realized that. Newsflash Lilly, you are no better than the rest of us."
“So is that what this is all about? Little Veronica Mars is going to knock me off my pedestal? You decided you’d show me just what you could do?”
Veronica shrugged her shoulders as she took a step forward forcing Lilly to step back slightly, “It really didn’t take much Lilly, just the truth.”
“Right, because everyone is going hate me now right? Dream on Veronica, that little email will do nothing! I am as fabulous as ever, and you are still the pathetic tag along you’ve always been.”
“Whatever you want to believe Lilly,” Veronica smiled brightly, “As always I’m sure you’re right.”
"You've always been so weak Veronica, honestly I almost felt sorry for you all those years. Why do you think I allowed you to hang out with me? You always needed me because you never could make it on your own."
"I don't need you now Lilly," Veronica smiled.
"That's right, because you have other people to stand up for you now." Lilly smirked, "But you'll never stand on your own, you just don't have what it takes."
"You're wrong."
“You really are pitiful Veronica, why don’t you just admit that all you really want is my life.” Lilly shot, “Seriously, you were like my shadow, when that wasn’t enough you wanted my brother, when he got tired of you what did you do? You went after Logan, now you can't get enough of Eli either? Seriously if that’s not pathetic I don’t know what is.”
Veronica swallowed hard as Lilly’s words hit her. She bit down on her lip as she tried to fight back the thoughts going through her head. She couldn’t let Lilly get to her; if she did she would have accomplished nothing.
“See Lil, I think that’s where you’re wrong,” Logan spoke up causing Veronica’s eyes to widen as he suddenly appeared next to her. She didn't know when he had actually made his way to her, but he was standing by her side just the same. “Why would Veronica want to lower herself into becoming you? Everyone in your life gravitated toward Veronica for a reason, because they all know that she’s the real prize and you’re just the cheap toy in the Cracker Jacks box.”
“Shut up Logan.” Lilly retorted weakly.
Veronica heard Mac and Meg chuckle and she chose to draw strength from them. She eyed Logan as he stood firm against Lilly. They had always had such a complex relationship. Lilly and Logan, Logan and Lilly, she had watched them love, hate, scream, laugh, and cry for years, but today she saw something different in both their eyes. She had told herself that Logan would never take Lilly back after she slept with his father, but she knew them, knew how twisted their relationship was, so she couldn’t help but wonder. Today however she saw the gleam gone from Logan’s eyes as he peered down at Lilly. It was over, truly over, only a few bitter words, but it was so obvious to Veronica that she couldn’t help but smile a little. Their huge fights had never signified an ending, but this seemed different somehow, Logan was done, Lilly was giving up, and Veronica had no idea what it meant for her.
“Face it Lilly, you’ve been exposed.” Veronica spoke calmly, “No one will ever believe anything you say anymore. You’ve hurt too many people, and nothing you can do will ever change that.”
Lilly shrugged her shoulders, “Just wait Veronica, you think you’re the only one that can expose the truth? You have no idea the things I know.”
Lilly pushed roughly past Veronica knocking her into the locker as she walked off. Veronica let out a frustrated grunt as she stood straight again. “I hate her!”
“She’s not worth it,” Meg spoke, “You won, just let it go now.”
“You think it’s over?” Logan laughed bitterly, “You do live in a candy coated world Meg.”
“Leave her alone,” Veronica warned Logan, “Meg’s right it’s over.”
“On your end,” Mac frowned, “But I’m not so sure it’s over on Lilly’s.”
“Listen to Cindy…” Logan spoke causing Mac to glare at him, “She was too calm. There was no blood shed, or even hair pulling for that matter. She's up to something."
“Logan just leave us alone,” Veronica frowned, “Your tough guy act was touching but you can move along now.”
“You know I wasn’t acting Veronica, everything I said to Lilly I meant.”
“Just go,” Veronica spoke eyeing him, “Please.”
Logan nodded his head and let out a sigh, “We’re going to have to talk Tink,” he spoke touching her arm, “You know we have to talk.”
“Actually I didn’t know that,” Veronica shrugged, “And for the record, I’m all talked out.”
Logan shook his head in disbelief as he turned to look at Mac and Meg, “Talk some sense into her,” he spoke softly, “Before she totally self destructs.”
Veronica started to speak but before she could, Logan backed away from her smiling slightly as he turned away with a wave of two fingers and quickly headed down the hall. She let out a loud groan then frowned when she saw the look on Meg’s face. The other girl was biting her lip gently her eyes staring at Veronica with a knowing look.
“Don’t,” Veronica whispered, “Not now.”
“He practically camped out on your doorstep this weekend Veronica.” Meg spoke, “You need to talk to him.”
“He kissed me and then told me it didn’t matter! He made me believe it was all some big mistake and he says he was just scared. I don’t owe him anything.”
“You care about him Veronica,” Meg sighed, “In fact you’re crazy about him.”
“He’s driving me crazy, that much is true.” Veronica huffed.
Mac stepped forward and rolled her eyes, “Let me lay this out for you Veronica, you want Logan, Logan wants you, but you have got to be the two most stubborn people I have ever met in my life! You didn’t tell him about Weevil and Lilly, he didn’t tell you how he felt, but you’ve both apologized so please for the sake of all our sanity, just talk to him.”
Veronica stared blanking at Mac for a second and then smiled, “Your random outbursts are becoming quite amusing.”
“Veronica!” Meg huffed, “We’re serious!”
“I can see that,” Veronica shrugged, “And yet I’m still not feeling the overwhelming need to find Logan and pour my little ity bitty heart out.”
“She is hopeless,” Meg frowned turning to Mac, “Hopeless.”
“Indeed.” Mac nodded.
“No, but I am going to class.” Veronica smiled, “Try not to look so glum ladies; we took down Lilly Kane today. This is a day that will go down in the history books! Victory is ours.” She laughed raising her fist in the air as she turned leaving the two girls with their mouths hanging open.

Veronica frowned as she walked down the long hall. It had been one of the longest days of her life. Lilly had left school in the middle of the day, which helped some, but it still didn’t solve her problems. Duncan kept sending glares her way, and she knew he was furious. Every chance Logan got he had tried to talk to her. When he wasn’t bugging her Mac and Meg were trying to convince her to give in to Logan and just see what he had to say. If that wasn’t bad enough Casey had sat with her at lunch and hinted once again that he couldn’t wait until they finally had their date. She knew she should be happy that it was time to go home, but Weevil had approached her at lunch and asked her to meet him in the storage room after school. Rolling her eyes she couldn’t help but wonder what he wanted.
As she approached the storage room she let out a sigh as she looked around to see if anyone was looking. Once she knew she was in the clear she slowly turned the knob and stepped inside.
“On time as usual Tink.”
Veronica felt her books falling out of her hands as she looked up to see Logan smirking at her. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to hit him or just run.
“Where’s Weevil? What did you do to him?” She screeched backing up toward the door.
“Weevil set you up.” Logan smiled slyly, “Sucks doesn’t it?”
“He wouldn’t do that,” she fumed, “He wouldn’t help you!”
Logan shrugged his shoulders, “Everyone has their price Veronica. In case you forgot Weevil’s grandmother works for my family. I offered to have mother give her a raise if he’d help me out. He sold you out for a couple extra bucks an hour.”
Veronica’s mouth tightened as she glared up at Logan, “At least he’s getting something out of the deal.”
“And so am I, because now we can talk.”
“I’m leaving.” Veronica frowned, “Now.”
“Hmm,” Logan spoke with a smile, “I don’t think so, see right now there should be a chair keeping us in this tight little spot. So you might as well get comfortable Tink.”
Veronica frowned, “So you’ve kidnapped me? You’ve locked me in a room with you? You find this humorous Logan? Do you think that will help your case?” She yelled as she backed away from him, “Because it won’t!”
Logan shook his head, “I’ll make this quick,” he spoke, “I’m sorry Veronica, I’m sorry I lied to you. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you how I felt, but I totally freaked out ok? I was totally screwed over by Lilly and all I could think about was how everything was perfect when we were just friends!”
Veronica tried to let the words soak in her brain. Logan seemed so sincere, but she didn’t know if she was ready to trust him. So was so tired of being hurt by the people she cared about.
He stepped closer to her and touched her shoulder, “You remember that right Veronica? When it was just the four of us, no romances just four best friends? It was perfect, and then I started dating Lilly and you started dating Duncan and everything was ruined when it broke up.”
“Then why did you kiss me in the first place Logan?” Veronica yelled, “Why did you even start something if you wanted us to stay all bff? Seriously, explain that one to me!”
Veronica felt herself soften as his brown eyes lowered. His whole _expression changed as he stepped even closer to her and touched her face, “I couldn’t help myself.”
“Oh that’s original.”
“It’s true,” he whispered, “I just needed to know what it was like. I had to know how it felt.”
“And then you said it meant nothing.”
Logan nodded his head, “For the record, you picked a really bad time to bring it up anyway. I was still pissed at you for keeping the whole Weevil thing from me. So yeah, I lied. I said it meant nothing because I was confused and hurt.”
“You kept lying,” she heard herself speak and it scared her how soft her words were coming out. She knew she was caving, but the look in Logan’s eyes made her want to.
“I kept lying,” he agreed, “Because I didn’t know what else to do.”
“The truth would have been nice,” she muttered.
“Yeah, but I could say the same to you.”
“You have said the same to me,” she reminded rolling her eyes, “Over and over again.”
“Oh, right,” Logan shrugged running his hand through his hair, “Guess I did.”
“We’re so screwed up,” she spoke forcing a smile.
Logan chuckled at the comment, “Can we get out of here and go talk Tink? I promise we can go anywhere you want.”
“And you won’t try to hold me captive?”
“Not unless you want me to.” Logan grinned, “I just want to talk.”
Veronica lowered her head and closed her eyes. She knew she couldn’t fight Logan. He was right, they had to talk, and they needed to get everything out in the open once and for all.
“My house,” she spoke looking back up at him, “You can follow me there now.”
“In that case,” he smiled, “I’ll ask our dear friends to release us from this place.”
“You do that,” Veronica nodded, “And Logan, if you ever try a move like this again, I will make you pay.”
Logan laughed gently, “Now that’s my Tink.”
“I'm not making any promises Logan," Veronica warned sternly.
"We're talking, that's good enough for me."

She caught view of Madison Sinclair and Carrie Bishop whispering at Madison’s locker and Veronica knew Lilly’s fun had finally ended.
There was a second when Veronica had to question if she had made the right decision in taking Lilly down. Everything they had once shared was officially ruined and she knew they’d never get it back. She would never forget the Lilly she knew, the one that braided her hair and told her that they were both fabulous. She knew that wasn’t the same girl that had slept with Aaron Echolls, her Lilly wouldn’t have done that, the Lilly she was taking down wasn’t the same Lilly that she would someday remember with a smile.
“It’s everywhere!”
She heard the perky voice behind her and she smiled to herself as she slowly turned to face her friend. Meg was smiling brightly, her eyes shining as she looked down at Veronica.
“I know,” Veronica nodded, “I heard a couple girls talking about it.”
“I saw Dick and Kaz out in the parking lot and they were screaming at each other!” Meg laughed, “You should have seen them they looked furious!”
“At each other?” Veronica questioned, “Guess that makes sense, everything is going to change now Meg.”
“I know… it’s hard to wrap my head around it all.”
Veronica nodded her head and smiled as she caught Mac quickly walking toward them. She was wearing an unusual grin, one that Veronica wasn’t sure she’d ever saw on her face.
“Have you two been in the parking lot?” Mac questioned when she finally joined the other two girls, “The 09ers are turning on each other out there. It could seriously be the most amazing thing I have ever witnessed in my life.”
Meg clasped her hand over her mouth as she giggled, “I know it’s so weird I didn’t think everyone would turn on each other, just on Lilly.”
“And here I thought they were such a tight bunch.” Veronica shrugged, “How could I have been so wrong?”
The three laughed at her comment and for once things felt almost normal, but she knew nothing would ever be the same again. She realized that she was a different person now, but still just to have a reason to smile felt nice.
“Look,” Meg whispered pointing toward Madison’s locker.
Veronica turned quickly and saw a smiling Lilly heading toward Madison and her friends. She seemed completely oblivious to what was going on around her. Veronica knew what was coming and she couldn’t help but brace herself for the show.
“She has to know doesn’t she?” Mac questioned, “I mean how can she not know?”
“I don’t think she does.” Meg spoke just as Madison’s eyes widened a feet from them.
“You stupid whore!” Madison yelled out, “You slept with Dick! You knew about me and Dick and you totally went after him, you slut!”
“Looks like little Madi has quite the temper.” Veronica mused with a smirk.
“This is the best day of my life.” Mac grinned, “Seriously the best day ever!”
Veronica chuckled as she turned her attention back on Madison and Lilly. She saw Lilly’s eyes widen and then she watched as her former best friend smiled brightly.
“Geez Madison overreacting much?” Lilly questioned, “I did not go after Dick. I had him yes, but I never went after him, and besides he was a total embarrassment anyway. You do not have to worry about me going there again.”
“You’ve had every guy in the school!” Madison screamed.
“Ok so what are we talking about here?” Lilly asked as Veronica caught her roll her eyes at Madison, “How did you find out about that anyway?”
Madison took a step closer to Lilly, “We all know what a whore you are. Like everyone in Neptune got your email this morning! You’ve totally slept with the whole school.”
“Ok I think you’re off your meds again.” Lilly laughed, “I didn’t send anyone an email, I haven’t even checked my inbox in like a week.” Lilly took a step back and crossed her arms, “And Madison, call me a whore again and you’ll find a whole new diet plan, because when I get done with you, you’ll be lucky to suck soup through a straw!”
Veronica gasped when she saw a tall figure approaching Lilly and Madison. She closed her eyes and opened them again to see Logan standing behind Lilly. “Oh God.” She muttered to herself.
“All talk no action Lilly…Seriously I came to school today hoping for a good catfight.” Logan looked around and smiled brightly, “Anyone want to move this to the gym and toss in some mud? I’m sure the whole school would pay to watch you two fight over the biggest slut award,” he shrugged, “Too bad Lilly already has it in the bag.”
“God Logan do you ever shut up?” Lilly questioned.
“What I’m just speaking the truth. Come on Lilly, the entire PCH in one night? And Dick and Kaz? There’s really no competition.”
Veronica watched Lilly twirl around to face Logan. She was still smirking and Veronica knew things were about to get much worse. She moved slightly so she could get a better view curious to what Logan would say next.
“Do you want something Logan?” Lilly asked tossing her hair over her shoulder.
“Hmm I’m not sure, what are you charging these days Lil? I think I should at least get a discount, you know since I’ve already tried everything you have to offer?”
“Oooh and let me guess you’ve decided to come back for more?” Lilly asked arching an eyebrow.
Veronica swallowed hard at Lilly’s words as she felt a gentle hand touch her shoulder. She smiled when she saw that Meg was behind her smiling gently.
“Nah, I’m actually here to get a refund. Isn’t there a money back guarantee on used goods?”
“Drop dead Logan.”
“I prefer living thanks.”
“You know what, who cares what you prefer,” Lilly spoke rolling her eyes, “You’re so not worthy of all that is Lilly Kane.”
“Actually you’re value has went down considerably since early this morning Lilly,” Logan smiled, “In case you haven’t been clued in by now everyone knows that you are nothing but a cheap whore.” Logan crossed his arms as Lilly’s eyes widened, “Sometime early this morning, dear Lillian, anyone that is anyone at this fine educational institute received an email that told of a few of your many conquests.”
“My email,” Lilly suddenly spoke as her mouth dropped open, “You broke into my email!”
Veronica watched as she charged at Logan but he grabbed her hands quickly before Lilly had a chance to hit him.
“Me?” Logan laughed, “You give yourself way too much credit Lilly. I don’t care enough about you to take the time.”
Veronica watched in silence as Lilly looked around the hall. She felt her stomach flop when Lilly’s eyes landed on her. She felt Meg and Mac shuffle in closer to her and suddenly she felt herself smiling. She watched as Lilly marched toward her and she knew the time had finally come. Lilly’s eyes were wide and her mouth was twisted. Veronica knew Lilly’s temper but the look on her face was new, even for Veronica.
“You!” She yelled out at Veronica, “You did this!”
“And you did Dick and Kaz,” Veronica shrugged, “Guess that means those rumors about Dick weren’t true after all.”
Lilly rolled her eyes, “You little slut.”
“I think your mistaken Lilly, see you’re the slut, I’m just the bitch that outted you.” Veronica smiled.
Veronica heard a few gasps but ignored them as she glared at Lilly. She saw Logan watching from the other side of the hall, his eyes following her every move. She looked away from him and back to Lilly. She couldn’t let him get to her, not now.
“So is this like your revenge or something? You actually think you can ruin me Veronica Mars?” Lilly asked.
“I’m pretty sure I did ruin you Lilly Kane.” Veronica shot back, “Ask around, I’m sure everyone will agree.”
“I can have you arrested for this you know, breaking into my email? That is so against the law.”
“True,” Veronica smiled, “But I doubt you want the whole town reading that letter especially your parents.”
“Please, it’s not like they don’t know what I’m like.” Lilly laughed bitterly, “I slept with my ex boyfriend’s father, a few high school boys are nothing.”
“I doubt mommy dearest would approve of your choice in high school boys.” Veronica pointed out, “Know what I mean?” She added shooting a glare at Lilly.
Lilly rolled her eyes and took a few steps toward Veronica. Veronica backed up slightly as her back pressed against the cool lockers behind her. She saw that Meg and Mac hadn’t moved from their place beside her and Logan had almost moved closer.
“You’ll pay for this Veronica Mars,” Lilly growled, “You’ll pay in ways you’ll never see coming.”
“God Lilly you’re turning into a cartoon villain now.”
“You think this is funny Veronica?” Lilly questioned, “I know you’re totally proud of yourself right now, you and your geek friends,” she added glaring at Meg and Mac, “But you know me, you know who I am and you know what I can do.”
“You’re the fabulous Lilly Kane!” Veronica spoke adding a bit of fake cheerfulness to her voice, “Except your not fabulous Lilly, and your not wonderful or amazing either. It's time you realized that. Newsflash Lilly, you are no better than the rest of us."
“So is that what this is all about? Little Veronica Mars is going to knock me off my pedestal? You decided you’d show me just what you could do?”
Veronica shrugged her shoulders as she took a step forward forcing Lilly to step back slightly, “It really didn’t take much Lilly, just the truth.”
“Right, because everyone is going hate me now right? Dream on Veronica, that little email will do nothing! I am as fabulous as ever, and you are still the pathetic tag along you’ve always been.”
“Whatever you want to believe Lilly,” Veronica smiled brightly, “As always I’m sure you’re right.”
"You've always been so weak Veronica, honestly I almost felt sorry for you all those years. Why do you think I allowed you to hang out with me? You always needed me because you never could make it on your own."
"I don't need you now Lilly," Veronica smiled.
"That's right, because you have other people to stand up for you now." Lilly smirked, "But you'll never stand on your own, you just don't have what it takes."
"You're wrong."
“You really are pitiful Veronica, why don’t you just admit that all you really want is my life.” Lilly shot, “Seriously, you were like my shadow, when that wasn’t enough you wanted my brother, when he got tired of you what did you do? You went after Logan, now you can't get enough of Eli either? Seriously if that’s not pathetic I don’t know what is.”
Veronica swallowed hard as Lilly’s words hit her. She bit down on her lip as she tried to fight back the thoughts going through her head. She couldn’t let Lilly get to her; if she did she would have accomplished nothing.
“See Lil, I think that’s where you’re wrong,” Logan spoke up causing Veronica’s eyes to widen as he suddenly appeared next to her. She didn't know when he had actually made his way to her, but he was standing by her side just the same. “Why would Veronica want to lower herself into becoming you? Everyone in your life gravitated toward Veronica for a reason, because they all know that she’s the real prize and you’re just the cheap toy in the Cracker Jacks box.”
“Shut up Logan.” Lilly retorted weakly.
Veronica heard Mac and Meg chuckle and she chose to draw strength from them. She eyed Logan as he stood firm against Lilly. They had always had such a complex relationship. Lilly and Logan, Logan and Lilly, she had watched them love, hate, scream, laugh, and cry for years, but today she saw something different in both their eyes. She had told herself that Logan would never take Lilly back after she slept with his father, but she knew them, knew how twisted their relationship was, so she couldn’t help but wonder. Today however she saw the gleam gone from Logan’s eyes as he peered down at Lilly. It was over, truly over, only a few bitter words, but it was so obvious to Veronica that she couldn’t help but smile a little. Their huge fights had never signified an ending, but this seemed different somehow, Logan was done, Lilly was giving up, and Veronica had no idea what it meant for her.
“Face it Lilly, you’ve been exposed.” Veronica spoke calmly, “No one will ever believe anything you say anymore. You’ve hurt too many people, and nothing you can do will ever change that.”
Lilly shrugged her shoulders, “Just wait Veronica, you think you’re the only one that can expose the truth? You have no idea the things I know.”
Lilly pushed roughly past Veronica knocking her into the locker as she walked off. Veronica let out a frustrated grunt as she stood straight again. “I hate her!”
“She’s not worth it,” Meg spoke, “You won, just let it go now.”
“You think it’s over?” Logan laughed bitterly, “You do live in a candy coated world Meg.”
“Leave her alone,” Veronica warned Logan, “Meg’s right it’s over.”
“On your end,” Mac frowned, “But I’m not so sure it’s over on Lilly’s.”
“Listen to Cindy…” Logan spoke causing Mac to glare at him, “She was too calm. There was no blood shed, or even hair pulling for that matter. She's up to something."
“Logan just leave us alone,” Veronica frowned, “Your tough guy act was touching but you can move along now.”
“You know I wasn’t acting Veronica, everything I said to Lilly I meant.”
“Just go,” Veronica spoke eyeing him, “Please.”
Logan nodded his head and let out a sigh, “We’re going to have to talk Tink,” he spoke touching her arm, “You know we have to talk.”
“Actually I didn’t know that,” Veronica shrugged, “And for the record, I’m all talked out.”
Logan shook his head in disbelief as he turned to look at Mac and Meg, “Talk some sense into her,” he spoke softly, “Before she totally self destructs.”
Veronica started to speak but before she could, Logan backed away from her smiling slightly as he turned away with a wave of two fingers and quickly headed down the hall. She let out a loud groan then frowned when she saw the look on Meg’s face. The other girl was biting her lip gently her eyes staring at Veronica with a knowing look.
“Don’t,” Veronica whispered, “Not now.”
“He practically camped out on your doorstep this weekend Veronica.” Meg spoke, “You need to talk to him.”
“He kissed me and then told me it didn’t matter! He made me believe it was all some big mistake and he says he was just scared. I don’t owe him anything.”
“You care about him Veronica,” Meg sighed, “In fact you’re crazy about him.”
“He’s driving me crazy, that much is true.” Veronica huffed.
Mac stepped forward and rolled her eyes, “Let me lay this out for you Veronica, you want Logan, Logan wants you, but you have got to be the two most stubborn people I have ever met in my life! You didn’t tell him about Weevil and Lilly, he didn’t tell you how he felt, but you’ve both apologized so please for the sake of all our sanity, just talk to him.”
Veronica stared blanking at Mac for a second and then smiled, “Your random outbursts are becoming quite amusing.”
“Veronica!” Meg huffed, “We’re serious!”
“I can see that,” Veronica shrugged, “And yet I’m still not feeling the overwhelming need to find Logan and pour my little ity bitty heart out.”
“She is hopeless,” Meg frowned turning to Mac, “Hopeless.”
“Indeed.” Mac nodded.
“No, but I am going to class.” Veronica smiled, “Try not to look so glum ladies; we took down Lilly Kane today. This is a day that will go down in the history books! Victory is ours.” She laughed raising her fist in the air as she turned leaving the two girls with their mouths hanging open.

Veronica frowned as she walked down the long hall. It had been one of the longest days of her life. Lilly had left school in the middle of the day, which helped some, but it still didn’t solve her problems. Duncan kept sending glares her way, and she knew he was furious. Every chance Logan got he had tried to talk to her. When he wasn’t bugging her Mac and Meg were trying to convince her to give in to Logan and just see what he had to say. If that wasn’t bad enough Casey had sat with her at lunch and hinted once again that he couldn’t wait until they finally had their date. She knew she should be happy that it was time to go home, but Weevil had approached her at lunch and asked her to meet him in the storage room after school. Rolling her eyes she couldn’t help but wonder what he wanted.
As she approached the storage room she let out a sigh as she looked around to see if anyone was looking. Once she knew she was in the clear she slowly turned the knob and stepped inside.
“On time as usual Tink.”
Veronica felt her books falling out of her hands as she looked up to see Logan smirking at her. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to hit him or just run.
“Where’s Weevil? What did you do to him?” She screeched backing up toward the door.
“Weevil set you up.” Logan smiled slyly, “Sucks doesn’t it?”
“He wouldn’t do that,” she fumed, “He wouldn’t help you!”
Logan shrugged his shoulders, “Everyone has their price Veronica. In case you forgot Weevil’s grandmother works for my family. I offered to have mother give her a raise if he’d help me out. He sold you out for a couple extra bucks an hour.”
Veronica’s mouth tightened as she glared up at Logan, “At least he’s getting something out of the deal.”
“And so am I, because now we can talk.”
“I’m leaving.” Veronica frowned, “Now.”
“Hmm,” Logan spoke with a smile, “I don’t think so, see right now there should be a chair keeping us in this tight little spot. So you might as well get comfortable Tink.”
Veronica frowned, “So you’ve kidnapped me? You’ve locked me in a room with you? You find this humorous Logan? Do you think that will help your case?” She yelled as she backed away from him, “Because it won’t!”
Logan shook his head, “I’ll make this quick,” he spoke, “I’m sorry Veronica, I’m sorry I lied to you. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you how I felt, but I totally freaked out ok? I was totally screwed over by Lilly and all I could think about was how everything was perfect when we were just friends!”
Veronica tried to let the words soak in her brain. Logan seemed so sincere, but she didn’t know if she was ready to trust him. So was so tired of being hurt by the people she cared about.
He stepped closer to her and touched her shoulder, “You remember that right Veronica? When it was just the four of us, no romances just four best friends? It was perfect, and then I started dating Lilly and you started dating Duncan and everything was ruined when it broke up.”
“Then why did you kiss me in the first place Logan?” Veronica yelled, “Why did you even start something if you wanted us to stay all bff? Seriously, explain that one to me!”
Veronica felt herself soften as his brown eyes lowered. His whole _expression changed as he stepped even closer to her and touched her face, “I couldn’t help myself.”
“Oh that’s original.”
“It’s true,” he whispered, “I just needed to know what it was like. I had to know how it felt.”
“And then you said it meant nothing.”
Logan nodded his head, “For the record, you picked a really bad time to bring it up anyway. I was still pissed at you for keeping the whole Weevil thing from me. So yeah, I lied. I said it meant nothing because I was confused and hurt.”
“You kept lying,” she heard herself speak and it scared her how soft her words were coming out. She knew she was caving, but the look in Logan’s eyes made her want to.
“I kept lying,” he agreed, “Because I didn’t know what else to do.”
“The truth would have been nice,” she muttered.
“Yeah, but I could say the same to you.”
“You have said the same to me,” she reminded rolling her eyes, “Over and over again.”
“Oh, right,” Logan shrugged running his hand through his hair, “Guess I did.”
“We’re so screwed up,” she spoke forcing a smile.
Logan chuckled at the comment, “Can we get out of here and go talk Tink? I promise we can go anywhere you want.”
“And you won’t try to hold me captive?”
“Not unless you want me to.” Logan grinned, “I just want to talk.”
Veronica lowered her head and closed her eyes. She knew she couldn’t fight Logan. He was right, they had to talk, and they needed to get everything out in the open once and for all.
“My house,” she spoke looking back up at him, “You can follow me there now.”
“In that case,” he smiled, “I’ll ask our dear friends to release us from this place.”
“You do that,” Veronica nodded, “And Logan, if you ever try a move like this again, I will make you pay.”
Logan laughed gently, “Now that’s my Tink.”
“I'm not making any promises Logan," Veronica warned sternly.
"We're talking, that's good enough for me."
