My First Love [7/10]

When Aiba woke up on Monday, the memories of the previous night were still lingering inside his mind. He shook his head and washed his face again with cold water.
“Just a mistake. I don’t want him. It was because I was drunk. That’s it”
Aiba kept repeating those lines as a mantra until he was ready to leave the apartment. Today was gonna be hard, facing Sho… he didn’t know what face he should put in front of him.
As he reached the building, he took a deep breath and entered the office.
“Yosh! Let’s go! You can do it Masaki”
As the doors of the elevator were closing, he could see Sho and Matsumoto talking in the waiting area of the reception, and the sulking posture of Sho didn’t pass unnoticed for him.
Now that was added to the already messy thoughts in his head. Once he entered their office, only Nino was there.
“Ah! Good morning Aiba-chan!”
“Morning…”
Nino looked at him with a confused look.
“Eh? What’s wrong?”
“Nino… I screwed it up… really badly”
Aiba wasn’t sure if telling it was a good idea, but somehow he needed to let it go.
“I… Sakurai and me… we…” But just when he was about to tell it, a voice broke in.
“You two, stop chatting like girls and start working. You’re not paid for this”
“Wow! Easy Sakurai, we’re on it!”
Aiba couldn’t even look at him. He felt his cheeks flushing red. How was he supposed to act normal after that happened? Luckily, the busy day at the office was putting things easier, the balance day was coming by and their work was increasing day by day.
Nino had disappeared a little ago telling that his Oh-chan was waiting for him to have lunch, so Aiba was left alone. He got up ready to go to the cafeteria to pick something to eat, he wasn’t actually hungry, but he didn’t want to try his luck and end up alone with Sho.
But as he was coming out of the office, he saw someone walking towards him; someone he didn’t want to see. Now being alone with Sho didn’t look like such a bad idea… probably it’d be safer.
“You!” Jun yelled pointing at him and walking faster to not let him runaway “I asked you in a nice way to stay away from Sho didn’t I?” he grabbed Aiba’s shirt and pushed him making him clash against the wall
“Matsumoto, please….”
“Shut up! You’re a liar!”
Aiba looked at him with confused eyes
“Liar? I don’t know what you talking about!” Aiba tossed up Jun’s hand away from him
Jun laughed in an ironic way, and turned around to look at him with fire on his eyes
“Didn’t you say you didn’t want him? That he had destroyed your life?” he laughed again “And now you slept with him”
Aiba froze but it was expected he knew about that
“We were drunk and that was a mistake…”
“You think you fool me? Please!” the irony on Jun’s voice was more than obvious “I told you that if I had to warn you again, things will be ugly…”
Aiba was scared. He tried to talk but any time he opened his mouth, Jun cut him. He tried to free
himself again, but it was in vain.
“You didn’t have enough last time, that you need to make him suffer more?”
“I-“
“You’re disgusting” Aiba winced at those harsh words. “Now let me repeat this one more time. He’s with me now…”
He couldn’t finish his phrase when another voice interrupted him and when Aiba looked to the left he found Sho standing there, with a cold expression.
“Jun… stop it”
“What? You’re gonna let him play with you again? Is that?!”
Aiba took the chance to get himself free from Jun, and fell on the floor, his hands trembling. He only wanted to run away from there.
“I’m not letting anyone play with me”
“You are, can’t you see it?”
“No and anyway, this has nothing to do with you. I’m not yours, get the idea”
Jun face flinched at that, but tried to compose himself as fast as possible.
“No, but I’m your friend. And I’m not letting such a scum play again with you the same way as he did. Somebody like him doesn’t even deserve to breathe the same air as us”
Aiba kept sulking on the floor. Had he hurt the other that bad?
“Jun, quit it!”
“No! I’m not stopping. I can’t get what you see in him, why you prefer him? I’m not better? He’s a loser, a pathetic and disgusting guy that has fun playing with other people, he-“
What happened next left Aiba dumb folded, Sho got close to Jun and punched him directly on the face, making him fall.
“You’re my friend, and you are like my brother. But I’m not allowing you to say those things about him. Nobody is playing with me; I’m the one risking myself. Don’t get close to him again, you get it?”
Sho kneeled in front Aiba and smiled at him softly, but Aiba still couldn’t react, trying to process what had just happened. He allowed Sho to help him to get up and got dragged towards the toilet.
“Wash your face, I’ll be waiting here”
Aiba got into the toilet and looked himself in the mirror, looking the tears flowing down his face.
“Come on, Masaki. Be strong!”
He washed his face with cold water, letting his mind to clear a little. After some minutes, he came out of the toilet to find Sho waiting for him with a serious expression.
“Aiba, I’m sorry about this. I really sorry”
Aiba was speechless and his tears were threatening to appear again.
He blinked a few times to stop the tears and cleared his throat before talking.
“It was not your fault”
“No, it was. And I’m sorry you had to go through that. I’ll make sure he doesn’t bother you like this again, and don’t mind him or what he said. He’s a good man, you know?”
Aiba couldn’t utter a word; he didn’t know what to say, so he just nodded in acknowledge.
“Masaki, there isn’t any chance you want to be with me again?”
“I… No…”
Sho’s couldn’t avoid the deception in his face, but he quickly tried to recover and smiled bitterly before replying.
“I won't give up on you, Masaki”
