“Know what's weird? Day by day, nothing seems to change. But pretty soon, everything's different.”

Bill Watterson

He started walking through the corridor, when his phone started ringing; he pulled it out of his pocket and picked up without checking the caller.

"Yes?"

"I just wanted to check if I had the right number. I’m glad!" Instinctively Sho turned back looking for Aiba but he couldn't find him "Have fun at class!"

Aiba hang up before Sho couldn’t say anything, and he couldn't avoid being amused by it, to be honest, he hadn't even though on gave him a fake number.

The class went as usual, a little more boring maybe since Jun wasn't around, so, as soon as the class ended, he headed home. Once there, he went to his bedroom wanting to relax letting himself fall in the bed when once again his phone rang, announcing a new text, he quickly checked it, thinking it may be Jun to tell him about his day with Nino.

From: Aiba

Classes over? Did you paid attention?

Sho was surprised when he saw the message, somehow, he was still wondering if it had been a good idea. After thinking about it for some minutes, he replied the text.

To: Aiba

Yes, classes over and of course I paid attention, who you think I am?

From: Aiba

Of course you did :P. So...did you change your mind about going out with me?

To: Aiba

No chance.

From: Aiba

I thought so *laughs* but just so you know, I’m not giving up Mister pretty boy

Sho didn't reply the last message; he just stayed in his bed without moving, and started to think about the other guy. Somehow, his high self-confidence was still pissing him greatly. He didn't know how could somebody be that full of himself? But then, the image of Aiba's hurt look that morning came to his mind, and he started regretting again being that hard on him always. In a second, that image of security that the other always had disappeared. Sho wondered what may have happen for Nino to snap that way.

"Arg! I don't get it!"

A while after, his phone ringing broke hi chain of thoughts.

"Hey, Jun. See you're still alive and that psycho haven't killed you with the ride"

He could hear his friend chuckling at the other side of the phone.

"Don't be exaggerated. I had a lot of fun with Nino. You'd like them if you'd give them a chance..."

"I doubt so. You going to uni tomorrow or you'll abandon me again"

Sho tried to pout even when his friend couldn't see him.

"I know you're pouting now idi--"

"Eh? you watching me?! Stalker!!!"

Both started to laugh at the path their conversation was going. Somehow, despite how different they may be, Sho was really glad to have a friend like him that could make him relax from his stiff life.

The days passed by, Jun skipping classes now and then, thing that frustrated Sho till no end. But he knew Jun was happy and enjoying being that carefree, he always had being thankful for the balance he brought to his life, even if that meant tutoring him before the exams started. On the other hand, Aiba had been calling him and texting him a lot too, and he had to admit, he wasn't still hundred per cent at ease with him, the other still managed to piss him off at times, but the rest of the time, he could be a really nice person to talk to.

Today was weird in that aspect, he hadn't receive any text from Aiba and, without wanting, he couldn't avoid to wonder about it, when suddenly his phone rang

From Aiba:

Hey, how's been your day?

Sho read it the text, but it took him a moment to reply, somehow this didn't seem the same flirty, cheaper guy that usually texted him, he scolded himself thinking that what did he care, but then he remembered what had happened the other day and the hurt look on the other's eyes, so then he started typing

To: Aiba

Hey you, my day was ok.. you? I was wondering if you had given up already and you'd finally leave me alone.

From Aiba

Is that your way to say you missed me? How cute of you

Sho could tell the other wanted to keep the game, but somehow it wasn't doing the trick and as much as he tried to let it pass he ended up giving up.

"To: Aiba

Idiot! Of course not...but you didn't answer my question. There’s something wrong?"

After that it took a while before he got a reply

"From Aiba:

Is nothing important, it's fine"

"Argh! this idiot!"

Sho was a very stubborn person if he wanted to, and somehow now was determinate to know what was wrong and try to help the other guy. It was a way to pay him back for the other night, or so told himself to not think he was actually caring.

He took a deep breath and dialed

"Wanna go for a walk?" he shoot as soon as the other picked up

Oh lord, a walk? Really Sho, what are you a 16 year old girl? he scolded himself.

"A walk? Aiba said surprised

"Yeah, a walk. you know, that thing you do with your legs..."

He could hear the other guy giggle on the other side of the line.

"Why not better we take a ride on my bike and..."

"I said a walk" Sho interrupted him "I'm not gonna ride that bike of yours again!"

"Thanks" Aiba said and after they had agreed where they'd meet, both hang up. After half an hour, they met at the beach, Sho had to wait a bit for the other to arrive and he had to stop himself from not leaving when he thought if this was an ok thing to do, but as soon as he saw the other getting close and waving at him, he forgot about it.

They walked along the beach talking, when he heard what the other's problem was, Sho realized there was more behind this guy that he would expect of and then he felt guy and guilty for judging him without knowing who he really was.

AIBA’S POV:

As he saw Sho walking and getting lost between a group of students going in and out of the building, he decided to leave too. Even though the idea of waiting for the other boy was very tempting, he decided to leave it for another time.

As soon as he rode his bike, a doubt crossed his mind; did he really give him his number? He pulled his phone of the pocket and dialed, after a couple of rings, he heard the other's voice.

"Yes?"

Aiba smiled, indeed he had gave him, his number

"I just wanted to check if I had the right number, have fun at class!"

As Aiba got home, he found Ohno watching TV in the living, and for a change, he took out his jacket and jumped to the couch with him.

"Weird!"

"Huh? Isn't it good to disappoint you from time to time behaving properly?"

Ohno just chuckled at Aiba's answer, and he totally understood why it surprised to his brother that he was wake instead of asleep or eve that he was at home instead of being anywhere else.

Aiba just laughed at that, somehow, he was in a good mood after getting Sho's number. After sometime just sitting beside each other Ohno got up to get ready to go out, so he got up to wave him goodbye.

As he came back to the sofa, he checked the hour and decided to text Sho, seriously doubting the other would reply. It had been surprising considering it all, that Sho had gave him his phone number.

But to Aiba's surprise, he got a reply from him after some minutes. He just smiled and replied in seconds and was not disappointed to read Sho's answer in his usual tone.

At night, he got a call from Nino, relating him with details his whole day with Jun. He was so glad, that after all that had happened, he had found somebody so like him.

The following days went by between Sho's texts and Nino's narrations about how awesome Jun was.

"You know, Jun told me about Sho"

Aiba tried not to look too eagerly to know more about him. Nino had dragged him out to have breakfast and to brag about how sexy was his new boyfriend.

"Oh, so it is?"

"Aiba-chan... don't try to act like you don't want to know"

Aiba tried to look away, he knew beforehand he wouldn't fool his friend, and that there was no way he could avoid being teased by the brat.

"Well, as you wanna know about it, even when you won't ask me. Looks like mr. perfect was rise for that, to be mr. perfect"

Somehow, all what Nino explained him explained the way the other guy was.

After a long chat with Nino, and as Nino had to leave to meet Jun, he headed home again with the feeling that lately he was spending way too much time at home.

When he opened the door, he found Ohno sat on the couch waiting for him

"Hello,Oh-chan" he greeted him and went to sit to the other sofa, he noticed something was wrong with his brother, somehow he was a bit tense.

"Is something wrong?" he said throwing a cushion to the older boy.

"Your father called"

He immediately tensed when listened that and couldn't avoid to feel angry.

"Oh, he remembered he has a son now?"

"He wants to see you" Ohno told him and then looked at him.

"I have nothing to talk with that man"

Aiba stood up and went to his bedroom, slamming the door behind him. Later he would have to apologize to Ohno, it was not his fault and he knew it wasn't the way to react but he couldn't help it.

It was ridiculous this man was looking for him now, after turning his back to him when all that mess had happened, but if he thought he would react like nothing and go running when he called, like nothing happened, he was wrong.

The knock on the door pulled him out of his thoughts; Ohno entered the room without waiting for an invite.

"Don't you think is time to face that?"

"Is a little late for that."

"Come on Aiba-chan, he's your father after all and ..."

"And nothing Oh-chan. I don't wanna see him, what does he want?"

He saw Ohno sighting before exiting the room

"Think about it, ok?"

Aiba didn't say anything, and buried his face on the pillow. He wanted to text Sho, but he wasn't in the best mood and didn't want to end up snapping to the other guy or anything like that, so he decided not to do it til he’d be calmed enough. He plugged his earphones and closed his eyes, letting his mind lose in the loud music and falling asleep.

After a couple hours he woke up calmer, but still a bit down. Even so he grabbed his mobile and started typing.

To Sho:

Hey, how's been your day?

Aiba put the phone aside and waited for his answer, hoping to get something to pull up his mood.

From: Sho

Hey you, I'm ok... you? I was wondering if you had given up already and you'd finally leave me alone.

Aiba chuckled softly at his answer, thinking that it may have been a good idea to text him. He couldn't keep his father issue out of his mind, but at least Sho's usual self could make his day better.

To Sho:

Is that your way to say you missed me? how cute of you

He tried to reply as cheerfully as he could, trying to cheer up himself, and ignoring Sho's question clearly. He didn't want to tell the other, and he was waiting Sho would let it pass, but that didn't happen.

After doubting again if telling Sho all, he opted for stay quiet. He didn't need to trouble any other person with his own things. It was then when his phone started ringing.

Normally it was him the one who had to start the messages chains, and the one who had to call the other, so it was surprising to see Sho calling him.

He opened his phone and before he could say anything, he heard Sho's voice over the phone.

"Wanna go for a walk?"

Aiba stared confused to the air...

"A walk?"

To say he was surprised was too little. Why was this sudden change now?

"Yeah, a walk, you know that thing you do with your legs..."

Aiba couldn't help but giggling at that, thinking how cute Sho was sounding even though he was being his usual self and was using the same tone as always.

"Why not better we take a ride on my bike and..."

"I said a walk" Sho interrupted him "I'm not gonna ride that bike of yours again!"

After arranging where to meet Aiba went to pick up his jacket. Somehow, he decided to go there walking, hoping his mind would relax before reaching the meeting place.

He saw Sho waiting him already as he reached the beach. And as soon as he got closer, he got the question he had hoped not to get/

"So, what's wrong? And don't tell it's nothing"

"It's just... nothing important"

Aiba sighed; he didn't want to think about it, or to talk about it.

"You lie horribly, you know?"

Aiba chuckled softly.

"Yeah, Nino always tells me that"

He saw Sho starting to walk, inviting him to do so. He knew the other wouldn't give up, so he opted for a generic answer.

"Just some... family issues you could say"

Sho stared at him, like wondering.

"You don't have to tell me if you don't want, we just met not so long ago so it's ok but--"

"It's not that, but I don't really like to talk about it"

Aiba looked at Sho, hoping he'd understand.

"It's ok"

Aiba couldn't stop staring at Sho's honest eyes, the same eyes that were threatening to break his walls.

"You know? I live with my step brother"

"So it is?"

"Yeah, I kinda got kicked out of home when... something happened, and he's the only of my family that stayed by my side back then. But, I'm nothing but a useless person and a useless brother so, it wouldn't have been weird if he'd had turned his back to me too"

Sho stared at him with wide open eyes.

"Why you say that? Whatever happened can't be enough reason for that"

"I... I almost killed a guy"

Aiba could see Sho freezing at his words, and started cursing himself. Great Masaki, now you've lost any possible chance.

"What happened?"

"You're not calling me beast and leaving" He laughed bitterly, but he could see the determined look in Sho's eyes when he replied.

"No"

"They were beating Nino, and I just... guess I lost control, and one of them ended up in the hospital. I almost killed him..."

He felt Sho's hand in his back and after all this years, he allowed all his feeling to overwhelm him and his tears started to fall freely. He wanted to turn away, it was the first time in his life he'd cry in front of somebody, but suddenly a pair of arms pulled him into a hug and he let out 5 years of dry feelings, 5 years of pain and regrets.
