I enjoyed this one too, even though it was more on the procedural side than I wanted the show to be. The rapport between Danny and his cousin really worked for me, which helped a lot. And it was fun, a not-quite-so serious ep. The goofy slow car chase makes me laugh just thinking about it. That must have been so PAINFUL for Steve.

Yeah, Danny and the nephew were surprising, but the acting really sold it.

And oh man, yes, it must have been painful. I can just imagine Danny going, "We have to at least try!" I loved Danny's, "Please?" :D

I take it people have had a lot of criticism of this episode? I haven't read any other reviews yet.

I preferred it when canon pretended gay people didn't exist beyond subtextual reference - What subtextual references are you referring to ( ... )

I haven't talked to a lot of people, but I know eumelia liked it a lot less than I did; we have very disparate opinions on this one ( ... )

Ah, okay, it sounded like you were referencing criticism of this episode without saying what that criticism would be, so I thought maybe I'd missed something ( ... )

I had trouble constructing that sentence :).

I have the feeling the show is catering to straight slash fans. I don't think it's catering to lgbt fans, which is maybe where the distinction comes from. I don't enjoy these throwaway lines either, they're there and I don't much care for them, and indeed, like you, I take much more away from intense moments than throwaway lines. Steve's reaction was great! He didn't care, and I loved that, too. It was definitely not a joke about being gay, but it did feel heavy-handed to me, as their marriage jokes so often do.

I understand what you mean about Sang Min being skeevier, but I do enjoy the way that we know both Sang Min's crimes and are shown his human side and must choose.

I don't think anything was strictly necessary in the ep, but those are the parts I tend to really enjoy about the show and it made this ep feel a little lean not to have them. But I can see your point.

It improved upon second viewing. I was not enamoured of the whole "you pick the ending" concept - by default, the story had to be vague enough to allow for three possibilities (which were virtually identical). Eh ( ... )

I haven't seen it a second time, but I seem to be the only person who liked the concept, both in advance and in execution. Which is okay! We don't have to agree on everything.

I was surprised by the nephew's sudden appearance, but I liked the position it put Danny in as a result. Though I see your point. I wince every time they make Steve state the obvious because they need someone to sum things up before a commercial break.

Mr November. Oh yes, Steve is saving that in a special folder no one else gets to look at. There should be fic, seriously.

Sang Min felt very much like a set up for a future ep, rather than a plotline in and of itself, and I think that's why it didn't get much mention, but it was disappointing. I like our ohana.
