Let my girls be Hermiones, rather than Pansy Parkinsons. Let them never be Stupid Girls. Rant over.
I think JK was thinking about using your brain vs. not using it. The Pansy we have seen in canon isn't the... well, it doesn't look like she's the most intelligent person in the world. She's rather snobbish and shallow. Hermione, on the other side, isn't a great person either - but she's more focused on using her brain instead of being the "ideal" girl (i.e. thin -_-). I suppose JK rather wants her girls to be... intelligent than shallow.
I mean I understand that, but there's a such thing as intellectual snobbery and Hermione gives off that vibe, to me at least. And that's just as bad as being "shallow."
Exactly. She's a snob, and that makes her a bit unperfect, to my mind. I mean it's hard to be nice to those type people, and I don't think anyone wants their kid to be that way. More rounded really.
I don't agree with children being obese, I don't either, especially when you get moms feeding three year olds food that is enough for three grown men.
I think the thinness craze running rampant is a reflection of our society, and is part of why people mock us so much. I've never liked the skinny girls like Cameron Diaz, preferring girls like Drew Barrymore and Eliza Dushku. Skinny by nature is different than ribs protuding to emulate a model. A natural thinness is okay.
And that is a good logic. I mean, to me, it makes sense. There are all body types, and instead of wanting to be the next Jessica Simpson, the girls should be proud of who they are and confident in that they're different. All girls, not just the fat ones (like me). It's hard to be heavy nowadays and find the cute young clothes though, and it feels like all this thin obsession is making it even harder. Companies are making more clothes but they're too old looking. I'm 24 and I want to look it. I can't wear certain trends, but I can make do with that I have. *shakes
