*wibbles*

That was me. Reilly alternately wants to push Penny away from her friend and to tell Julian that if he was with Astoria it had better be because he cared for her and not as some consolation prize.

If Julian were with Astoria, it would be because he cared about her. Even he isn't as callous as to treat her as second-best.

He's not a complete jerk. Like I said, if he really went after Astoria, it'd be for realz.

For what it's worth, I didn't want to make it sad. It just sorta... happened.

Please don't cry. *snuggles*

Falling back into his bed had been easier than she'd imagined. Really, all it took was placing the two of them in the same space-any space-and the sparks were inevitable.

CALLED THIS.

His green eyes were cool, devoid of emotion when he replied, "I feel nothing for you."

OUCH.

"I won't give up what I have on the off-chance that you might throw away your inhibitions and leave Diggory. If, by some miracle, you muster the courage to leave him, you'll always be torn by what might have been. And I'll not be made the villain in my own relationship."

He pulled his hand out of hers and stepped back, his face that familiar, closed-off mask she'd seen so many times. "I can't trust you, Penelope. And if I can't trust you, how could I ever love you?"

Love me mercilesslyOooo. That last bit was particularly powerful ( ... )

1-- Doesn't mean it's actually going to happen. It's just one of several scenarios I can see playing out in the future.

2-- I know, right? That one hurt to write.

3-- I think that's what it all boils down to. Everyone says they think Julian and Penny will overcome the trial and eventually find their way back to one another, but I really don't know if that'll ever happen. Julian's not the most open or forgiving of men, and he's not going to stay with someone he can't trust. And for all that Penelope's done to him (and she'd argue she only did what he was due), he can't trust her.

It's hard to know how he felt, but I think he did care about her, or at least was starting to. But now, I don't think we'll ever know.

I'm glad you liked it! I was sitting at my desk, thinking, 'This is sucky and angsty and everyone's going to be like, Woah, melodramatic much, Leigh?'

*SMOOSH*
