I think I get it. Vampire Diaries non-rec

Apr 27, 2010 09:54

I've tried to watch the Vampire Diaries, and I think I finally get why I can't. It's not that I have a hatred of problematic romances... it's that none of the characters seem to be trying to accomplish anything other than live from day to day.

And here I ramble about the obvious )

meta, commentary, rec, plot, vampire diaries

Abandoned it after the second episode. Couldn't bear the lack of depth and could find the patience to wait for any depth to show either.

That's as far as I got as well.

I find it kinda annoying too. You'd think that there would be more going on other than gossip. I mean, the characters don't even have hobbies. They don't have hopes or dreams. They don't have philosophies. They aren't even interested in anything other that gossiping about each other, and no one is actually doing anything worthy of gossiping about. I mean, gossip is fun when there's something juicy, but all the time ( ... )

When I was in middle school The Vampire Diary books were my fav. so now that its 14 years later they came out with a show and so I watch it out of respect, but i was a little upset but for other reasons well they can't do the book justice but for some reason Elena reminds me moor of the every girl like Bella from Twiligh. The book Elena was a lot moor like Caroline well with more brains and she was stronger I think not sure like I said middle school she was differently more ambitious. I keep watching to see if they r going to end the season like the first book. Every time I see that they came out with a show or movie of a book I read I look at it like I do with fanfiction.

I wouldn't rec tvd either -- rationally I know that it's a terrible show. I still like to watch it because of the tension between the vampire brothers. I didn't start watching at episode 1. the first episode I saw was a flashback to their origin story, and that reeled me in. I don't particularly mind most of the characters, but I don't find them interesting.

that said, I like that with vampires, their is always history and baggage. I like with the vampires in tvd that there is love, need, hatred, and all the petty feelings in between. sometimes the rest of the characters are like props in their drama. clearly the props have their own plays, but I usually ignore those! I'm not sure if this is why other people like tvd, but from the number of stefan / damon slash floating around, it may be one of the attractions...
