Call me paranoid but I wouldn't put it past Jeffrey to be playing in this. Diversion so George would do what he does best, run. Set him up to lead him to Vestular. Political hay. Loved the discussion of vampire politics and social mores. Gregory was 'pricking the condom'. *delight* Oh how cute of him.
Sometimes it's frustrating because the whole pricking the condom thing hints at a section of backstory that there is just no comfortable way of shoehorning into this story.

*GRINS* Some writers do sidestories to the mainstory line. *tries to look innocent*
loved it ,I am not sure I trust this guy yet ,they have been thru so much ,I don't know if I would have trusted anyone enough to get into another car with someone .jeffrey is going to be pissed at any rate .
Only I am seeing that Chuck's not quite what George thinks he is. He's not all about killing the Vampires, I bet, but he's about doing it stealthy like, not upsetting the status quo, or rather managing it, focussing and directing the resistance so the Vampire society would do stuff the way HE wants it.
.... And him being so nice, and insiduous - he's fucking scary too. Just that he has no Vampire ness ...
Though I keep thinking Chuck's really a renegade vampire.

It's not like George or Wally can tell.

But I love this chapter. Not so much harried, but all that "Oh yay relief" going on.
... it's going to get WORSE for poor George.
