The other day I thought of an AU where John and Rodney are actors and meet Joe and David when hired for a movie. John and Rodney knew each other for a very long time, while Joe and David had never met. So I thought about the relationship of John and Rodney, what their setup to finally getting together would be and their backstory started to jump into my brain.
I have a bad track record with WIPs. In fact while I know the ending, the rest of it has come in bits and pieces so far and not chronologically which might make this a bit difficult...
A Matter of Faith.
Actorverse AU. John/Rodney. 1/?. R.
Disclaimer: I don't own them.
Notes: There are/will be other pairings. Het and Slash. This chapter has John/OMC and Rodney/OMC. Actually there's generally a lot of sleeping around. Because that's how it is in my head. Don't ask why. I don't know.
The first that Rodney saw of John was his ass as it was being fucked by his boyfriend.
Rodney stood there, the door handle to the bedroom in one hand, the grocery bag in the other, and just stared. Then he dropped the bag and started screaming.
"Out!"
Phillipp turned around and so did John for that matter, but Rodney didn't watch him.
"Rodney!"
"Yes, it's me. The guy who pays for this apartment. Get out!"
Phillipp winced as he pulled out of John.
"Listen Rodney, I'm sor-"
"I don't care. Get out now!"
Phillipp stood at the end of the bed, hands covering his still condom-covered and relatively hard dick. "What, now?"
"No, in six weeks. Of course now. And please. There's no need to be shy. I've had that in my mouth and my ass. So take that thing and leave."
John settled down on the bed and covered himself with the blanket, trying to draw no attention. Then he watched the shouting match.
"I can't leave like this!" Phillipp said with wide eyes, gesticulating at his naked body.
Rodney picked up some discarded clothes and pushed them at Phillipp, before taking his arm and dragging him out.
John nervously checked if some of those had been his own clothes.
"Let me at least put these on," Phillipp begged as he got into his boxers.
Rodney opened the main door and glared at him.
"What about my things?" Phillipp asked as he went out.
Rodney shoved his keys at him. "Get them when I'm not here. And don't even think about taking something that's not yours. I have contacts to the government. They'd never find your body. And I'll expect to find these keys when I come home tomorrow."
"Bu-"
The rest of the word and what Phillipp wanted to say was drowned by the noise of the door, when Rodney slammed it in his face.
He turned around and cursed. "Fucking asshole!"
When he looked up he saw John standing in the bedroom door, dressed.
"Not you," Rodney said. "I mean, I don't know you. You could be an asshole or not. I'm reserving judgment."
John thought about that for a second, before speaking. "I didn't know he had a... boyfriend."
"Yeah, well, I figure he wouldn't advertise that, when he picks up guys. Not that I'm surprised. Hell, I don't really care. He wasn't anything special and pretty lousy in bed."
John nodded, making a face.
"Actually, the only thing that annoys me is that I have to go looking for yet another roommate. It's fucking impossible to find someone who's willing and able to pay his share. I've tried actors, writers, people not in the business, girls, guys, sleeping with them, not sleeping with them. It's all the same. Either they want to leave after two weeks or I have to kick them out because they can't pay or because they are morons. I mean is it too much to ask that if you happen to run into each other at breakfast in the kitchen that you can hold a simple conversation?"
John kept nodding through pretty much all of Rodney's rant and waited until he was sure he was finished. "So you're looking for a roommate?"
"Why, do you know someone?" Rodney perked up.
"Well, actually I'm looking for..." John trailed off.
Rodney looked at him as if he'd only now seen him for the first time. His eyes moved up and down John's body.
"Sorry, that was a stupid idea, after-"
"No!" Rodney interrupted him. "I already said I don't care about him. So the only thing that speaks against you is your questionable taste."
John smiled. "Well, I wasn't exactly looking for a long term relationship with him."
Rodney nodded as if contemplating something. "So do you have a job?"
"I'm an actor."
Rodney's face fell somewhat. "So, no."
"Okay, I'm taking classes. I'm a waitor and drive taxi and do some accounting for the Pegasus theater group."
Rodney just looked at him.
"I'm good with numbers," John added.
Rodney didn't seem convinced.
"How much would my share be?" John asked.
"450$."
"I'll pay you two months in advance."
Rodney watched as John pulled out his wallet and counted 9 hundred dollar bills. He handed them to Rodney, who took them.
"John," John said.
"Over there," Rodney said, nodding towards the door next to the bedroom, while he put the money away.
"No. John Sheppard," John said.
Rodney frowned then nodded in understanding. "Rodney. Rodney McKay."
And that was how John met Rodney and moved in with him.
