A travesty for sure!

You know what I'm betting is going to come out of this whole Disney-buys-Marvel deal?

Better advertising for Marvel products.

EVERYTHING ELSE? BUSINESS AS USUAL.

Warner Bros acquired the rights to DC's film properties and I've yet to see Batman taking off after Joker, Coyote-Roadrunner style. I'm just sayin'.

Although, as glockgal prompted, I ( Read more... )

I'd pay plenty of good money to see Wolverine break out into song too...

You know, I wonder if maybe my sarcastameter is just broken and I can't tell if half the people agonizing about the kiddifying of Marvel are being genuine or not. Some seem pretty clear in their ironic posts, but others are.. not so evident and just seem regular!upset.

Hee! I want the next round of Kingdom Hearts games to have Marvel characters. Just think of the Punisher blasting away Heartless.

I'm having that problem too. I understand the initial shock and bewilderment but after a minute or two, people should be past that. But that's logic and that has no place here.

Nooooo! It's bad enough that I have Disney characters all up in my sexy men! (That came out wrong...)

BUT MARVEL IS RUINED FOREVER, CHIRA. RRRRRRUINED! ONLY BAD TERRIBLE NOT-GOOD THINGS CAN COME OF THIS!

Whereas clearly Marvel is a house of restraint and wisdom and only very very good ideas, like the zombies and the softcore tentacle porn on their adolescent-reader comic covers.

I'm not concerned about Disney going too crazy, either. Apparently, Disney owns ESPN and it's not like those guys started wearing princess tutus or anything. =P But hey, you might get some Wolverine and Captain Jack Sparrow action at the Disney parks... wait, didn't mean for it to sound that way... or did I? ;)

It also owns Miramax, which put out films like The Crow and Kill Bill, for heaven's sake. Which wasn't exactly singing and fluffy animal sidekicks and rainbows. Okay Eric Draven had an animal sidekick but I seem to remember it might've pecked someone's eyes out...?

Mmm Hugh Jackman and Johnny Depp... I'm sorry, you were saying?

I'm sorry, but those are very family friendly films. 'The Crow' is all about a man saving his princess from bad men (well, except she's already dead...) and 'Kill Bill' is about a mother and the love for her child. Yup, no surprise those belong to Disney.

*grins* I figured Hugh and Johnny may stop your thought process for a couple seconds there. ;)

Disney should think about taking the Saw franchise under their wing too. Who doesn't love a good family title about a wise old man teaching naive youngsters important life lessons? Every film, a new lesson for a new set of ever more stubborn young people! He's like the white, non-slave Uncle Remus for the new generation, really! Ewww I'm going to end this train of thought right now.

Which is all well and good. More time for mental!Hugh/Johnny. Mmm, that's right. Just take him in your big, burly Aussie arms... NOW HIGH KICKS!

Only if I get to play as Deadpool instead of that whiny kid. Or some sort of playable option. DEADPOOL SING-ALONG.

Thank you for this. My mind boggles at the explosion of "OH NOES, MARVL AS WE KNOW IT IS DED!!!" posts I've seen today, and it's nice to see someone viewing this merger with, what's the word? Oh, yes. Rational Logic. And I think I'd kill if we got a decent Marvel animated series out of this. Something from the Marvel Adventures universe, maybe?

Yeah, a lot of the outcry I'm seeing seems to view Marvel as some sort of beacon of consistency and wise ideas. I mean, I certainly like the characters well enough, but it's like, "Woe! Disney will stifle Marvel's creativity!" which are you kidding me, the company whose go-to when the creative well runs dry is either Skrulls or zombies? Well, and the threat of tentacle rape.

I just- augh. This is so not the first time Disney's acquired a company or a studio. It most certainly won't be the last. And each time, it's proven to change pretty much nothing about those properties, if it changes anything at all, aside from where the money flow comes from and goes to. Oy.

*nods* Current Marvel canon is generally so full of angst and woe and fail that I almost wish that Disney would come along and stifle their "creativity". Because I actually wouldn't mind having some well developed plots for a change, instead of just two keywords tossed in amongst a dozen explosions and three main character deaths. (Though it's just possible that I simply don't understand such brilliant plots because I'm a girl and those with no penis don't read comics anyway.)

Dude, how are you even on the internet? *peers suspiciously* You're a guy, aren't you? TITS OR GTFO.

(Hell, I love angst and wibbling and woe as much as the next fanthing, but when a storyline--or storylineS--just won't let up, after a while it just gets to be like, "Okay how long do I have to subject myself to this?")
