Fandom: The Authority Characters: Apollo and Midnighter Prompt: #7 One more inch Rating: Worksafe Medium: Pencil sketch & Photoshop A/N: I don't even know what.. I dunno.
And yes, I can see the detailwork on Midnighter's helmet. Took me a minute, because there's a lot of glare on my screen from the overhead lights, but I can see it.
Honestly, I've got my own interpretations too, that made sense to me in my head even as I worked on it, they're just.. too scattered to pretend I'd know what I was saying if I tried to explain ^_^;;
(It's not just you--I thought so too, and considered filling him out more, especially since he's in that bulky jacket, but then I was just, "Eh." The end.)
Honestly, I really like flat colors too, but I think the lineart really needs to look a certain way for them to work, which mine usually.. doesn't, so I don't do it much.
HOORAY, A CONVERT OF THE AUTHORITY!! *rejoices* (Stay away from Vol.2 books, stay away from Vol.2 books!!)
I really liked the desaturated color and I think that the fact that you can't see the detail on Midnighter's helmet actually goes with the whole color scheme, because it all seems very washed out and like big chunks of unshaded color.
(I had to get up really close to my monitor to see the lighting on his helmet, and that was only after you said there was any.)
I considered doing away with the gray lines for Midnigher, because yeah, worked with the flats and all. But the more I saw him without, the more he looked like a giant bullet to me -_-
