That's definitely a good idea! Do you use iTunes? I have been uploading lots and lots of CDs since I got my laptop and the convenience is great.

You made me think of something - when I was falling asleep last night, I started musing about the word "I" and how our capitalization of it almost makes it seem like a symbol. And when I see people write it as "i", then it looks like a letter. But when I read "I" it just comes across like a kanji character or something.

Yeah, when you fall asleep though, you don't necessarily have your best ideas...

Well, some characters in the Japanese alphabet (actually a syllabary) are just slightly simplified versions of kanji characters, so maybe you're onto something.

There are 3 ways of writing Japanese, though, right? Kanji, then a syllable one, and then something else? I used to know the names for them. One was something about a woman's hand, I remember...

Kanji(漢字), Hiragana(ひらがな), and Katakana(カタカナ). Hiragana and Katakana are both syllabaries. I forget their exact stories, but if I recall Katakana was created by the women in the ancient courts, so I wouldn't be surprised if it means woman's hand.

Basically, hiragana is used for grammar (like showing the tense on a noun that's otherwise made up of kanji), while katakana is used for words borrowed from other languages. It's a little more complicated than that, but that's the general idea.

Not to mention that almost every single person in Ireland seems to have an mp3 player and carries it around to and from class.

You'll be cooler than I was! Good job!
