Iron & Wine

I think I'm finally getting a handle on the new album.  Mostly listening to "Walking Far From Home" and "Rabbit Will Run" for now, but the latter is rather mesmerizing, especially how cleverly it mixes the old and the new.  The song lyrics still require some deciphering, and that pastoral feel to the music is still there even it feels a lot less ( Read more... )

I'm the exact opposite now. Music has taken an interesting back burner in my life. My ipod is almost all about podcasts and audiobooks now.

I do podcasts, but I've been told that I'm a "visual learner" and I still do most of my readings via, eh, reading. And honestly, I just prefer to read my prose than listen to it.

That said, any recs?

But of course!!!!

The first one that I ever listened to was Pottercast, which was excellent. I no longer follow the Potter community as closely but this is from the people over at the Leaky Cauldron and from what I recall it was a work of art. In terms of Potter podcasts I would also recommend Spapecast. I feel like a huge geek since it's so specific but the girls there produce a very informative and creative show.

My regulars tend to focus on pop culture and film reviews. My favourite is Filmspotting, which I've been listening to for years now. And I would also recommend the A/V Club (now on hold but will relaunch in April), the Slate Culture Gabfest, the Slate Spoiler edition and NPR Culturetopia (especially the Pop Culture Happy Hour segment).

I was never a huge fan of talk radio since it was a bit too unpredictable but I find podcasts allow me to prejudice myself enough to give me exactly what I want to hear, when I want to hear it, and without commercials :-)

*I download all of these through itunes*

Hmm, i will definitely check some of these. I sometimes listen to A/V Club stuff, which can be fun. I think my real first intense outing to podcasts was what the Breaking Bad cast/staff was churning out. Those were informative and lovely. I think a lot of shows have 'em, but Breaking Bad one was particularly endearing, because it's rather a small show with a smaller fanbase -- so it feels even more intimate.

Going to see Jane Eyre THIS WEEKEND. FINALLY.
