I'm part of an AR group that screens movies. We've been doing this for months now, and have seen The Witness in double feature with Vegan: A Life Connected; Behind the Mask, Lolita: Slave to Enterainment, Sharkwater, Dark Water Rising and last night Skin Trade. (Oh my ( Read more... )

Involve food (like cupcakes or appetizers) and maybe raffles to win small prizes?

I agree...food is always a draw, especially if it's free.

And if you do double-features, maybe get together with a social justice or environmental organization, do one animal rights movie and then have the other group do a movie and bring their members.

We show the movies at an anarchist vegan cafe; maybe that's part of the problem. But anyway, we can't offer free food when they're barely breaking even. Thanks for the idea, though! :)

Contact your local Food Not Bombs chapter. They will either provide food or give you ideas on how you can feed people for very little $.

I appreciate the information, but I was asking for ways to get people to come see documentaries on animal rights. Thanks. :)

glad to hear you're doing this! i hosted one screening of earthlings at a local art gallery/community space and it went great... but i think that might've been a fluke. i totally want to do more screenings. one neat idea -- the local animal rights group here prints tickets and sends an invite and free tix to social justice and animal groups. also, i would look into an alternative space, as you said. maybe the film could follow a spoken word performance? do you charge for the event? on the topic of food, i bet you could find vegan bakers to donate goodies to distribute them after the film is over.
