What part of Germany? I had great luck with vegan food in Berlin and Leipzig, particularly some squats turned into really gourmet vegan places. There are also falafel places on every block, for the cheap and fast vegan eats.

His parents live about an hour from Frankfurt in a small town, i'm not sure of the name. I know i'll be traveling around Germany with them though to different areas.

I found myself more limited in Frankfurt (ended up with a few meals of fries and salad), but that may have had more to do with the fact that I wasn't with someone in the know like I was when I headed east. Still plenty of falafel in the central part of the country though. :)

I know a few vegans/vegetarians in Germany, and their vegetarian society is very active and very pro-vegan (http://www.vebu.de/).

I've been to Dresden (for a veg congress) and to Berlin. Berlin has lots of nice places to eat out at and happycow has several listings.

Im from Germany and it's a lot more vegan friendly than all the other countries I've been to so far. Then again there is a great difference depending on where you are going to. A big city?

I had a hard time in Germany, but that was mostly because my family was actively trying to hit authentic (or maybe over-the-top touristy) German places to eat, and I was trying not to get in their way, so I had to do a lot of eating beforehand/enjoying salad and a plate of fries when we were at the actual restaurant.

The times we did go to veg-friendly restaurants though, I had some amazing food and some amazing service! And I was able to find plenty of food at the grocery store to stock in the hotel room so that I could have snacks and so forth on me at all times.
