LA and Germany

I'm going to LA for my birthday and was just wondering if you California vegans could suggest places to check out. I saw in vegnews there's a vegan store in Santa Monica, veganchic i think?

Annd since i'm getting serious with my boyfriend i'm flying back with him to Germany for Christmas to meet his family. Germany does not seem like a vegan friendly place though, has anyone had any experience there?
