Followup to Wellness pet food post

recently I made this post about whether or not Wellness foods (Old Mother Hubbard) conducts animal testing (they don't use invasive testing but they do have kennels, which caused some concern in the comments). Apparently the comments and discussion caught the attention of Old Mother Hubbard and I received an unsolicited email from a manager of ( Read more... )

...is anyone else a little creeped out that companies are monitoring livejournal?

lol, i admit i was surprised i got the email. there is nothing in my LJ that identifies me with the information that was in my initial email, so they had to have been searching for occurrences of their company in livejournal... and then cross-referencing it with recent emails they've sent/received...

which is also creepy.

but there are people who are paid to twitter for companies these days... it's not too far off to think those people twittering are also searching livejournal and other sites.

on the other hand, maybe some of their employees are members of the community. i suppose stranger things have happened.

i saw somewhere, i think it was in 'the corporation' or something, about people getting paid to plug certain companies in real life. like average people just mentioning it on the street, being seen in public places using their products, etc.
and i get really paranoid and torn when people recommend things on livejournal ever since then because i worry OMG. WHAT IF THEY'RE NOT JUST OFFERING GOOD ADVICE TO MAKE MY LIFE EASIER!? WHAT IF THEY'RE JUST TRYING TO GET THE MONEY I DON'T HAVE?! HOW WILL I EVER KNOW!?

this entry totally just made me think of that. so yeah, don't mind me, i'm just paranoid.

lol. a little paranoia is healthy in my book.

i had NO CLUE companies did that. i did mention once to the bissell guy on twitter who added me that i would not add him back (and eventually removed him), but that i admired his job where he got paid to twitter all day. he agreed he had a cushy job.

i can't imagine being paid off just to talk up product placement. that's insanity.

Glad to hear they're an ethical company... but it's too bad my cat turns up her nose at their wet food :(
