Vegan Cats - is it healthy?

I was talking to my friend, who is vegan, and who has two dogs that he feeds vegan foods to. I was skeptical at the health benefits at first, but after I researched vegan dogs and their foods it seems A-ok to me. But what about cats? Some cats take to it. Some do not. My cat became very ill and malnourished on a popular brand of vegan cat food. If its something you're going to try, be under a vet's supervision and keep an eye out for any problems with your cat.

Agreed.
I've heard a lot of discussions about turning cats vegan. Some cats can do it, it should definitely be something that is monitored by a vet. Some cats have very sensitive urinary tracts, and are very susceptible to blockages and infections.

I wasn't going to go into detail since this is such a trigger question for wank - but you're absolutely right. My poor kitty ended up with bladder stones that blocked him so badly that part of his penis had to be removed :X

i am a little jealous of everyone who talks about their kitties begging and stealing food. my cat couldn't care less about people food. the only thing she's ever gone crazy for was this soy ranch i made once. she was so well behaved that i left my plate out while i fetched a drink, and when i came back, she was FURIOUSLY lapping up the huge pile of ranch i had on my plate with some nuggets and it was nearly gone. i don't know what got into her. heh.

not, its not natural, but since the pet food industry is getting fat on the coattails of the rest of the meat industry, it's pretty unlikely to see rat or mouse flavored pet food, you know ( ... )
