you're so lucky!

my dads a hunter so i had a hard time going vegan already. him and my mother both are of the opinion that 'you need animal products to live!'
my moms good with checking the labels for me because she knows i'll do it myself too when i get whatever she gives me but shes not above trying to serve me spaghetti with meat sauce or trying to convince me her pancakes were made with soy or something. sigh.

hm....what other products besides white rain are sold in drug stores but vegan? i tried white rain years ago and remember being really dissatisfied. maybe i'll give it another whirl?

thanks!

My parents (really, my mom) have given up trying to get the right gifts long ago. Even for Christmas we get cash, and just a few gifts. But asking for money might come off as rude, too. When she visits, can you go shopping with her, instead of her bringing you stuff?

thanks.

we usually do but i was hoping there were other things that were more main stream she could get.
she usually picks me up things from when shes already out shopping.

but she is really good about taking me to health food stores for food when i'm home already.

I just make polite suggestions about which products I would prefer. My mom loves, loves to buy me tolietry type things (I don't know if this means something else) and I'll either give them to a friend or use a brand that I know is vegan in front of her, and be very loud about it.
"Oh wow! Kiss My Face Shampoo just really does wonders for my hair!"
okay not quiet that cheesy, but something like that.
She hangs onto the name and she sees the product. So there is no label reading, I'm not being a snot, and next time when she wants to buy me tolietry products she knows what I like.

Good luck with your mom.

My parents still do not accept my veganism as something that is less than insane. I have been vegan since 1998 and they still have no idea what I eat and what kind of products I use. They think it is awful and don't want to know.

So hopefully if you talk to her she will be understanding just be very nice.

yeah. they still think i'm insane as well.

ugh. weird, huh?
my mom is 'prediabetic' even and she needs to lose weight or she will DEFINITELY get diabetes, i tried explaining to her time and time again that going vegan would definitely help her but she refuses to give up her diet that the average puma would envy and we, are the crazies.

everyone in my family is extremely unhealthy. And sounds like they eat like your mom. A meal often includes multiple very large carcasses and only two people live in their home. Over Easter I had nowhere to set my vegan feast because all the counter space was covered in dead animals. They were EVERYWHERE. Mean while they are all overweight and unhealthy.

But yeah, we're complete nutzos for not eating animals.

now I am pregnant and I got a huge lecture form my mother about how I have to feed my kid meat when s/he wants it. She said "when your four year old wants to try meat because everyone else is eating it you have to give it to them." And accused me of being closed minded.

oh god, i know!

my last ex and i talked about marriage and kids all the time.

he kept saying, "if you get cravings for meat, just do it. if you're craving it, it's unhealthy to not eat it. eat meat when you're pregnant and i promise, i won't for the whole time. it'll even out that way."

good luck with your pregnancy! if and when the time comes for me, i don't know how the hell i'll be able to do it.

whenever i come home i get a ton of spaghetti sauce, boca burgers, hummus, and vegetables. and thats ALL.

now i'm just trying to work on the other goods she buys me.

This is a good idea - ask for products that can't be un-vegan.
