Dairy videos

Apr 17, 2007 16:37

Does anybody happen to know of any Peta videos or likewise revealing the cruelty of dairy farming??  I'd like to have something like that in my arsenal when asked why I'm VEGAN and not just vegetarian.

Thanks in advance!

EARTHLINGS. oh my god, this is a powerful movie. and it talks about everything.
i am not sure if it was made by PETA, but it Joaquin Phoenix voices it, and I know it is endorsed by PETA. It was what made me go vegan!
hope that helps!! :)

heh, you know, I was going to post this, first comment, but then i got distracted and left the window open. so you beat me to it.

But yeah. I watched Earthlings after I went vegan, and sort of went into shock. I knew about a lot of this stuff, but had never seen it, and didn't know that it was that bad.

Also, I realized: a lot of omnis say "Oh, well that's propaganda, those are just isolated incidents, they don't happen everywhere." I started thinking, 'Why would they do it any other way? This seems most efficient and cost-effective for them, so why would they do it in a way that treats the animals well?" It just made sense. I mean, it's stupid and disgusting and I'm completely against it, of course, but...I hope you get my point.

i think shock is exactly what i felt after i saw Earthlings. And then sick.

And I get what you mean, it sets up why exactly dairy and egg production is carried out in such a way, to get the most and cheapest product possible, and then of course it makes sense that it would be a widespread practice.

I normally don't put much stock into PETA videos, but this really changed the way i think.

yeah, I'm not a fan of PETA.

I don't think they made this video though, I think they just endorsed it.

I know that on youtube there is a 10 part video (with spanish subtitles, i think, but it's in English) called Earthlings. I can't remember which part is on dairy farming though. I know it's one of the first 4 or so, though, because I had to stop watching about there.

It's also broken into three parts, somewhere else on youtube, but I find the 10 parter more practical.

I don't blame you if you don't want to watch them though.

I don't know if it is just because I live on broadband or not, but you Google Video has it in English, and you can just download it to your computer for viewing at your leisure.

But I would also suggest that people buy a copy. Support them for doing such an excellent job.

I just didn't know that google had it, that's all.

Where can I buy it?

Heh, that was a half-complete thought that I wrote out above.

What I meant to say was "I don't know if it is because I have broadband, but I find a single file version to be much more convenient than a 10 file version. Google Video blah blah blah".

Anyway, to buy it, I would suggest your local small DVD business. They should be able to order it for you, and then you don't pay shipping.

Alternatively, PeTA caries it. Amazon does not. (Funny, they don't seem to have a problem carrying animal fighting videos and magazines....)

even if you got your dairy from a nice organic farm etc....

my big reason I always tell people is that the dairy/egg industry is closely tied to the meat industry... ie.. what happens to all the "useless" baby male calves... the "useless" baby male chicks... chicken/cow babies aren't all born "useful" females.
(ESPECIALLY now since most(?) farms use artificial insemination... Bulls are dangerous. *thinking* I grew up on a dairy farm and worked at my uncles dairy farm. My father had the free stall system and the bull was always with the cows and we were never to go in with the cows/bull alone... my uncle had a tie stall system and the cows would go to pasture in the summer and we would have to walk out and fetch them... but the bull was tied up inside 24/7 all year. I would go pick grass outside and feed it to him because I felt sorry for him.... my uncle found he loved banana peels and would feed him those... anyway... we were taught to fear of course, but I felt bad for that bull stuck in his corner.) =0(

Napoleon Dynamite:
"Also, when Napoleon gets a job on a chicken farm, battery hens are all shown stuffed into cages and Napoleon has to stuff one in-this scene is quite distressing."
