Pizza Hut mini rant

Feb 09, 2007 11:12

So my company ordered pizza for people yesterday, and were kind enough to order a veggie only pizza for the couple of us vegans there. I got really worried, thinking I remembered reading that Pizza Hut's crusts aren't vegan. So I looked it up online and found that the pan crust isn't, but hand tossed and thin-n-crispy are. So I'm thinking, " ( Read more... )

I can't remember the exact website, but it was taken from something like "The Fast Food Guide" from The Vegetarian Resource Group. I thought I remembered trying Pizza Hut's own site a while back and couldn't find what I was looking for. I wish companies would just be upfront about this stuff, so it wouldn't get so confusing and give so many chances for mis-information and unnecessary upset...

Well, since Pizza Hut is owned by the same folks who own KFC, can't say I'm surprised. But thanks for doing the right thing! You're not alone :-)

I was just wondering where you found the sauce information online. In their ingredient statement, the regular pizza sauce lists: Tomato paste, water, salt, spices, garlic powder, and citric acid. For the sweet pizza sauce: Tomato paste, water, high fructose corn syrup, salt, dry garlic, spices, and citric acid.

While googling, I also found this statement:
"A month ago, someone caused a furor on a vegetarian (Internet) bulletin board by insisting that Pizza Hut uses beef stock in its pizza sauce... While both rumors proved to be unfounded, our calls turned up information on hidden meat in other products from those restaurants.
The regular pizza sauce at Pizza Hut is indeed vegetarian, but the sauce on the stuffed crust pizza contains chicken fat, and the pasta and bread stick sauce is beef-based."
I don't know when it was written though...

Oh man... I was feeling a little panicked and grossed out. I ate a Pizza Hut pizza a few weeks ago.

Well, here's the link to the ingredient statement, if you want to see it: http://www.pizzahut.com/menu/nutritioninfo/documents/ph_ingredients.pdf.

I think a major problem is that restaurants seem to change their ingredients often, so information that is on the internet like veg fast food guides can be outdated and then mixed information floats through the vegan community. It's definitely frustrating!

Oh man, my work ordered pizza yesterday for everyone, too. Wednesday I asked them to get one with veggies and no cheese, then I called out yesterday. Mwahaha. (this wasn't planned)
