I won't go into "Animal Decaying 101"; but no, that coyote's pelt was not "found." Since when do fashion designers walk around in the wolderness sniffing out the smell of death, hoping it's a coyote rotting? Like the rabbits, dogs, horses, cows, and other fur-animals, there are people who breed coyotes for their fur. So no, it's ignorant to think that they found that pelt, and I wouldn't dismiss it, if I were them, because it's obviously real, and therefore wrong, IMHO, no matter what.
I really didn't think so. I cannot imagine anyone purchasing fur from some lunatic necrophiliac woodsman. But concerning the folks in that community? There comes a point when you just get sick of fighting. That's a horrible trait, but I lasted a while, and I seemed to get a few people to agree with me.
I would think that a designer would basically have to be following around a dying coyote and then snag it right as it died to get a "quality" pelt. Can you see a designer trapsing thru the woods? I don't think so. Ugh. That is so ugly.
first of all, i am laughing aloud at man_at_arms, and at the general inability of people to verbally express themselves. even the ones with valid opinions are completely incoherent. maybe it's just the effect of the internet. but anyway
( ... )
I, too, would assume that vegetarians and vegans would have greater representation in that whole neohippie/freak folk/new weird america community. Joanna Newsom is clearly not a veg*n, nor is Devendra (though he once was). Oddly, veg*nism is much more prevalent in alternative music... I don't get it either.
vegan is big in hardcore music as a sort of extended straight edge, the idea being that you don't put anything foreign in your body and then you are clean and pure and ready to rock the fuck out. maybe because neohippies do a lot of drugs, and they sway instead of dancing, they also eat a lot of meat? i don't know.
on another note, is there a special meaning to "veg*n" as opposed to "vegan"? my roommate was asking me last night why people type it that way. the only answer i could come up with is that we talk about veganism so much, we get tired of looking at the word.
Grotesquely, there was someone in that Joanna Newsom community who does claim to find dead animals, take them home, and make things out of them. I'd feel quite uncomfortable around a person like that, I'm sure. But hey, our similar reaction to dead animals reaffirms that our own sanities our still intact, doesn't it?
when famous people (or trendsetters) wear fur they make it desirable and popular for other people. so whether it was "found" or not it is likely to cause an increase in fur waering among fans. What is the likelihood that we can supply all these fans with "found" fur?
Not likely, also not economically feasible. it is much cheaper to breed a crapload of animals in a tiny space and kill them as inhumanely as they can legally get away with and then sell them to the public.
