Not Soy Good

Someone asked a few days back for information on how a vegan diet positively affects the environment; here's information on how a non-vegan diet is definitely degrading the Amazonian rainforest, and explanations of how little of the soy raised there is consumed by us:

god. it just makes me so sad. i wish there was more i could do than just eating organic soy.

I think that eating organic soy and not eating meat are two of the best things to do for this problem... if you're eating organic soy, you're probably not eating soybeans from the rainforest, and by not eating meat you're not contributing to the demand for cheaper meat/ soy consumption for livestock. So you're doing a lot! :)
