can i remind the community for who and what this is for?

What. This journal is intended to be a supportive community for vegans and those who wish to become vegan. As the community progresses we hope to make an informative, comprehensive journal as well as encourage discussions on veganism and animal rights. We support the fight for animal liberation and abolishing all forms of animal exploitation through protests, boycotts, civil disobedience and non-violent direct action (taking into account that you cannot inflict acts of violence against property and other material items).

Who. We welcome all types of vegans: animal-rights oriented, health-oriented, etc.

why was this post even allowed? i dont see where this says its supportive for people who want to stop being vegan.

Introducing the reason why fark.com has a Florida tag: kari_louise.

"a supportive community for vegans and those who wish to become vegan"

She's returning to veganism when she comes back from Mexico. Shouldn't you support that?

"encourage discussions on veganism and animal rights."

This was an opportunity to discuss what OP's doing in Mexico. She was faced with a very difficult decision, and decided she could subordinate her position on animal rights for a greater good. How about discussing that decision, which I assume is a difficult and complex one?

Reading comprehension - never leave home without it.

Maybe because the people here could offer relevant suggestions...

Re: "We welcome all types of vegans" - dare I say those who have to take a temporary break as well? Rudeness and elitism is totally uncalled for, and you already made it quite clear that you do not agree with the OP.

i've personally always found non-red meats, like fish or chicken, and eggs to be far more easily digestable than dairy products. however, this might be due to a dairy sensitivity, so i can't speak for everyone. i don't think you really need to slowly start eating non-vegan foods - just take it easy for the first week or so when you're abroad. try also to eat lots of beans, rice, and fruit, as those will probably be widely available and kind to your digestive system. and it's defintely not unheard of for people to have problems digesting dairy, especially in places with a non-caucasian majority, so if you do feel sick, don't be afraid to speak up! if you're polite and give it a try at first, i doubt it'll be so much of a problem.

good luck, & i hope you have a wonderful experience :)

The best thing to do is to test your body with milder things like chicken or fish and low-fat dairy before trying red meat, etc. I did that in similar circumstances and didn't actually have stomach problems of any kind ( ... )
