The lemony roasted potatoes are only so-so. Honestly, for thanksgiving I usually think of recipes that I am already comfortable with and would fit with the general theme. I think a grain dish would make your menu really zing - do you have a favorite quinoa recipe? I'm planning to do a quinoa dish with thanksgiving this year. I can't speak for the sauteed spinach recipe from V'con, but it's hard to go wrong with greens, so go for it!

Hm. I'm really looking to go with potatoes here - both because I love 'em, and because if I make some sort of grain dish, I will be the only one eating it. This year, my wife and I will be the only vegans in a sea of omnis (except for my dad, who's vegetarian). And two of those omnis are -notoriously- picky eaters.

Thanks though!

I've used the herb scalloped potato recipe from V'con for Thanksgiving for the past three years. My boyfriend's family is a traditional farming family, so I was skeptical they'd be into something vegan. But his grandmother calls me up every year and makes sure I'm bringing the scalloped potatoes! They all love them!

The lemony roasted potatoes are okay. They were a bit too saucy for me. I don't like that much sauce with my potatoes. If my potatoes are going to be roasted, I like them with more texture.

Try the scalloped potatoes!

No way! The lemony roasted potatoes are delicious. One of my favorite recipes in the book. I dunno if they'd go with a Thanksgiving menu, though. They are VERY lemony, which I don't think would go with the rest of the stuff on your menu. I'd recommend going a more traditional roasted potato route.

Since you are going to roast the brussels sprouts anyway, halve them and toss in a sliced apple and a coarsely diced onion when you do. You won't regret it.

Unfortunately, I loathe apple in non-dessert type dishes. I've tried apple in stuffings, rice dishes, all kinds of things, and it's always turned out poorly. The onion, though, I can definitely do.

Thanks. :)

I have tried the Cornmeal-Masala Brussel's-- they were okay. My dad really liked them, but he will eat Brussel's raw and think they're great. If you do make them, don't skimp on the oil because the crumbs are really... crumbly. I had to really press them onto the sprouts to get anything to stick. Most of the crumbs fell off onto the pan when I baked them anyway. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this recipe :/
Stick to recipes you know are good or do a test batch!

Yeah, I agree. In my opinion, there was WAY too much oil in that recipe, but I had the same problems as you so I dunno.

My friend made the most amazingly delicious Brussels sprouts, apple and walnut salad that I'll be remaking for Thanksgiving. Note to mangiati_vivi: pears would work instead of apples, or just omit and use shallots, walnuts and sprouts ( ... )

I LOVE the lemony roasted potatoes. As with most things, fresh lemon is pretty key.

Those brussels sprouts are okay, but I prefer the recipe (I think in Vegan with a Vengeance??) for garlic roasted brussels sprouts. I think they are easier AND tastier.
