Hello. I have an admittedly vague question. After a long day of work, sometimes when I cam craving protein and don't want to cook, I have a piece of Mori-nu silken tofu. I find it is much more enjoyable straight out of the package than those water-packed tofus. I usually put ponzu sauce or soy sauce on it, but am looking for suggestions of ( Read more... )

I was going to suggest that too. Or some chopped ginger and scallion.

i thought "savory" was the opposite of sweet, not some realm of taste like salty or spicy..

savory is a newly-designated basic taste. there have been 4 up until the last five years or so and savory (or, umami, as you may have heard it referred to as) was just added. they are: bitter, salty, sour, sweet & savory.

wellI don't know if you have access to these ingredients or if it's too savory but I think some chinese preserved veggies would be good here with some a drizzle of spicy sesame oil and soy sauce.

for something sweet, make a simple syrup of raw brown sugar or palm sugar. You can add almond extract if you'd like. THen smash the mori-nu lightly. There should still be chunks. Use the syrup like a dressing and eat. This is a make shift version of one of my favorite chinese desserts that I haven't had in a long time.

if you want sweet, best recipe ever: 1 cup peanut butter, 1 package silken tofu, 1 cup strawberries, 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup maple syrup (you can lower the sugar amount if you want), 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon almond extract- throw it in the food processor, it makes the best mousse ever. sometimes i throw chocolate chips in too (not melted) so there are crunchy chunks of chocolate as well. you could pour it in a pie crust and chill, or you can eat it with a spoon like a mousse.
