Chokoes

Hello

Do any of you have any experience cooking chokoes? The only ways I know of to prepare them are as pickles (I grew up with my pop's pickles, om nom nom) or just steamed, as my dad had them.

It had been suggested that I just use it in a casserole, but I kind of want it to not just bulk something up but a star or at least supporting actress ( Read more... )

I ... had no idea what chokoes were until I googled them after reading your post. But I did come across one suggestion to stir-fry them. It suggested including apples and onions with the chokoes.

the last line is great because for the rest of the post i was just thinking "apple pie, apple pie, apple pie", because it was only recently that someone said that mcdonalds apple pies didn't actually have any apple and so chokoes came up..

they're such a strange fruit/vegetable/whatever... i've never actually considered cooking with one.

(yes, this was a very helpful comment)

in terms of sweet stuff and having the chokoes as the star of a dish, i imagine that it would absorb flavours really well, so would work as a fruit in crumble. when i cook things for crumble, i usually add lemon/vanilla/sugar/other things to give some extra flavour to the fruit.

generally, i just put everything in a pot and then start cooking and taste and then (re-)flavour accordingly..

When I was growing up, my mom would put it in dishes like potatoes. We actually used to call them "green potatoes," but the Filipino term for it is sayote.
