Canadian thanksgiving is a celebration of harvest and not directly tied to any event (i.e. like in the states with plymouth rock, etc. which I actually don't know too much about). It's a celebration of harvest .. and because in Canada we're further north harvest is earlier in the year than the in States. Apparently Canadian thanksgiving is actually older than American thanksgiving, but I don't know any source of that, just random things I've heard over the years :).
